Right on, and thank you for the positives! Glad you're inspired too.
I got a lot of my ideas just googlen' the net and here of course.
My friend owns a local studio called "Vibesville" before that is was called Archer Studios...Phish recorded Lawnboy there, It's the real deal as far as construction goes, so I crawled all over that place getting ideas.

My space (in my basement at home) was originally intended as a rehearsal space for my band, and then I bought some recording gear ;)....I figured I go a little further and incorporate "studio type" construction/treatments to get better recordings of our musical efforts and quite it down for the neighborhood...to be fair, really it's a rehearsal space with decent recording capabilities rather than an actual "studio"....A hybrid? :rolleyes:

I used to work at a high end cabinet shop and I had my own renovation business for a few years...learned a lot from my father when I was a teen, he's the man :D

Another update!

Really pushing hard to get the treatment phase of the main room completed.
I built up some window plugs, all layered up with drywall and hushboard...these things are heavy!...as they should be.
You know what they say..."Good window plugs make good neighbors."

Looks great. Was there any frequency calculations involved? At first I thought you were using stock door molding or something, but up close, that doesn't look like a stock profile. How did you come up with that?

Heres some info...

Hardwood Diffuser, used to produce a diffused scattering of high frequency sounds without muffling. Grooved channels in the surface are a sequence of 7 elevations based on quadratic theory and the work of German acoustician M.R. Schroeder. Normally you build up panels of this stuff by placing planks side by side along a wall. I acquired a bunch of 30-40" scraps of this stuff when I worked at an architectural interior and cabinet shop. Been saving a pile in my garage for about 3 years, now, finally get to use it.;)

Ready to rehearse in there tonight! Champagne and stuff in the wait.
So psyched...my congas sound good in there...can't wait to hear the rest of the band. This weekend I'll start moving my desk and gear in.

Looks absolutely amazing!!!

Are you going to paint the diffusers and wood parts next to the lenards bass traps? I would but thats just me. The ceiling is the most wood I could do. Hehe....

Once again, such a good job!!!

Thanks, friend. The diffusers are solid maple with a clear satin lacquer finish, so I don't want to paint those, but the trim and jamb extensions around the window are pine and may get painted or stained. The trim on the Auralex corner traps actually holds (pinches) the traps into the corner (no adhesives) That too is solid maple and just too swanky to paint ;)

We rehearsed in there last night, it was surreal, and sounded great... exceeded all my expectations.

This is fantastic! I'll be moving into a new room and those 'clouds' over the mix position have given me ideas.

First real test.

Hello again, Thank you!

I rehearsed my band in the new space last night (Latin Soul/Salsa). I set up 5 mics in the 12x18 space. Vox, Sax, Timbales, Conga, and Kick. I DIed the Bass and the Nord came in stereo for a modest total of 8 inputs armed. After levels we're set, we ran a few tunes and then listened. I added a faint verb on the master bus along with a little comp, nothing too involved, and it sounded clean and clear. I soloed each mic curious about spillage, we we're all amazed with the amount of isolation each mic had as they we're in such close proximity. Mic placement and the room treatment had much to do with it I'm sure. The outcome of the little recordings last night exceeds all the expectations I had on my gear and the room...shoot, the entire build for that matter...and what a relief that is, let me tell ya ;)

So now, the REAL fun begins...wait...is this thread "dead" now that my build is "done"? Maybe I need to start a blog. :rolleyes:
