What do you do without flying faders....

It does differ, automation in the box is pre-everything, meaning that it will alter compression inserted on the console. Automation in consoles mostly works after the inserts, eqs, etc ...

    XLR vs. 1/4"" Jack

It might be confusing yeah TRS means Rip Ring Sleeve. TS means Tip Sleeve In most (pro) audio applications the TIP is "Hot", the Ring is "Cold" and the sleeve is ground. It has nothing to do with stereo cables. Iin consumer audio stuff TRS migh be used as unbalanced stereo. (one exception is...

    Sennheiser Tom Mics

Both e604 and md421 are great for toms. Don't know about the e609. The md441 works great aswell (though not cheap) Also check out some beyeredynamic or electro voice dynamics. The rest of your setup looks very nice good luck !

    behringer mics?

Mine is quiet enough. Not too guiet but it works, even for acc git. To be honest I'm mostly using it as a talkback mic because it fits nicely in my mixers xlrs :D But I've used it on ac guitars, OH's and as a room mic. Although they're not GREAT they sound very decent for $50. They don't even...

    behringer mics?

From what I've heard of it you'd be better of with studioprojects, for the same money. Never really liked a behringer mic except the ecm8000 but that's another story. You can get the SP b1 new for around $100 on evilbay If you want switchable patterns, get the SP b3 for $160 good luck btw...

    Is my SM57 broken??

What exactly is a "stage" mic and what is a "studio" mic ? If you have a studio but cannot work/don't use with a decent dynamic mic you're not worth all the neumann/geffels .... A mic is a mic and so many "studio" mics wind up on stage as do many "stage" microphones show up in the studio.

    Akg D112 Mic

The kick drum must sound good on itself (in the room) Do this by changing heads, tuning the heads etc ... Than find the best mic position for this bassdrum. My yamaha maple custom works best with a d112 just in front of the hole, with the mic a tiny bit inside. You might wanna put it all the...

    Mic for bass cabs?

never worked with it but since all the ones i've mentioned are dynamics it's possible. You can bring them up really close to the speaker/grill and still get a great sound! You can also try moving the cab around in the room to get a better balance. Also, what cab are you using and what genre of...

    effect pedals??,,,,,boss??

I second that. Also try www.tonepad.com and www.generalguitargadgets.com It's really fun, informative, cost effective and addictive ... But you'll wind up just like me spending way too much money on diy studio gear ... -Arno

    effect pedals??,,,,,boss??

ross (not a typo) used to make some great pedals, like their compressor and distortion. Dod was also great some time ago (i don't like their newer pedals) Also check out ibanez (tubescreamer) for great overdrive, Proco RAT for distortion, coloursound (gotta love their octivider and wha's)...

    Jazz Tone

try the neck pickup, it might sound a lot fuller. The only "effect" I would use would be an eq. Also, clean solid state amps often work really well for jazzy guitar sounds. Like the polytone. What mic are you using ? -Arno

    Doo-Mass Award

I recording an entire songs drum tracks while there was a bad cable on the kick mic and not noticing it. The kick sounded like a big "crrrrck" for at least half the time. I thought it was the bassist playing along on a scratch track who was making the crrack noise. I didn't notice it before...

Can someone please define some of these terms for me?

Auxiliary input is mostly just an extra line level input. Master fader is correct though on an anlog console they usually say "summing" all tracks. Sends is correct aswell. On consoles they often call this aux(iliary) outputs Automation is used on analog consoles for easily recalling...

how to mic an amplifier for electric guitar ?

It's pretty sure the mic can handle the guitar amps spl I guess the preamp is overloaded. Maybe you'll need a pad.

Phase Switching I think it's called, anyone care to explain?

//Is polarity black or white? In other words, are 2 instruments either in phase or out of phase, period? Or can you have SOME phase cancellation?// This is exactly the reason why they should not print "PHASE" on a mixers polrev button. It becomes so confusing ! Phase and polarity are two...
