As for the rest of you who do support me and enjoy my posts or assistance, and even my New York kind of manner.. you can show that support by coming over to recording.com and jump on my forum as well. Harvey will be there, as will Brent, Malcolm Toft, Steven Paul, and many other pro audio related guest appearances.

I am not asking you to ban HR, I am just saying spend some time with us at RO...you just might like it. I am not in to censorship at all, but there is no need for harrasment here and there will be none at RO, as that will not be tolerated.

P.S.

That's http://recording.org not com

Cheers!

call me a rocket scientist, but I'm guessing Dragon isn't appreciative of the fact that certain valuable forum members have been harassed to the point of departure...

btw, anyone heard from Ed (sonusman) or Sjoko lately? :(

Haven't heard from Ed since his cross-posting rant on the HR compilation CD. I think Sjoko just recently got his studio up and running didn't he? He's probably busy with that.

oh my Gawd...that's awful.. I think everyone is gonna run like lemmings over to the other site and read it exclusively, and homerecording.com is going to go under and there is going to be this big pile of [maybe up to 32] CD's of rerun Vol 1 left in some closet and no one will be around to pick up the tab. Maybe some advance forum giving would be in order... But we need someone to lead the way.....

We need someone with a thick skin....past "police" experience...killer riffs on a $150 guitar.... double screen names....some one who likes....aha aha ahahah a "woodie"... uhmmm... jaah..."shutup [Bevis]" ..let's see.. someone who likes girls...say someone 20 years their younger...like the Olsen twins....uhm....
that might be enough..

Not "competing" bbs('s)- COMPLEMENTARY bbs ('s)!
The more we learn the more we share (hopefully).

Chris

P.S. There's one other major bbs that encourages fellow recording nuts
by LISTING other websites btw.

I've been busy so I haven't been hanging out at this or any other forum for awhile. It is good to see that rec.org has gone back to not charging.I enjoyed going there but found that post were made at a much slower pace and when they started to charge (admittedly a very small fee) I just let it slide. Now it will be time to go back again,I know some people have problems with what they percieve as Stephen Paul's ego but I think if you can walk the walk you are entitled to talk the talk.Maybe it is his affinity for mind expansion that makes me feel a kinship with him but I find him to be refreshing and amzingly intelligent and I look forward to visiting his forum soon.

I think this is still a very good site and an incredible source of information. It is not perfect but what is in this world. The way Alan was treated really pissed me off but ultimately there was nothing that I could say that would change a damned thing. All I can say is Karma can be a real bitch and the way you treat people is eventually going to come back and bite you in the ass.

Alan I am still absolutely loving my TB-1.I don't mention it here too often anymore because it seems that anytime you even mention a Studio Projects product you are subjected to some form of bullshit. After a while you feel like why even bother to respond. It is amazing the power that a few tiny closed minds can have.Do you remember when one closeminded woman almost got "Married With Children"taken off the air?Too many closet Hitlers trying to do things for my own good.I'm wierd,I'd rather decide myself what is in my best interest.

Anywhoo,I'll take a public stoning any day of the week!!

I found it curious that the departure of Ed and Sjoko2 all seemed to happen about the sametime. One of Ed's last comments was to the number of Cave posts verses the number of other posts spread over things that should be a priority in a place called Homerecording. Im just as guilty as the next guy for being sucked into posts that really don't add any value to anyone. I know that these guys came here as a courtesy to help mentor and educate recordists with their vast knowledge and experience. But some took offense that someone knew more and refused to be open minded. Why would professional people who work in the industry continue to come here where the attitude meter is pegged by amateurish wannabes with chips on their shoulders. Id hate to say this especially because it applies to myself. You will not make it as an engineer in the music industry until you have an attitude thats repectful, humble and willing. If you want to remain at bottom, fine, but don't whine about guys like Alan Hyatt or anyone else. I get more sick of the spam police than actual spam. Most of the time I pass right over spam like I do the index of a instruction manual. Im trying to brakemyself of the cave, and spend more time reading information, looking for things to fill in my knowledege gaps. Ill ask stupid questions because It pops into my head. I was amazed at how graceful Harvey answered my question about putting panties on her head as a pop filter. I got an underlying curiosity satisfied that I didn't know I had, and no it wasn't a perverter underlying curiosity. So lets get back to the reason this bbs was created. Learn, share and be respectable.

These are my exact feelings as well, oh wise Son of Mixerman.

They are pretty slow. Harmony Central recording forum is by far the fastest. It's got a good level of pro engineers as well.

I really come here just b/c of Harvey Gerst. I've learned so much from his mega threads. And, I enjoy his stories as well.

More true when it was exclusively a pay site for a couple of months. Now that more people are finding they can get on for free again, the pace is definitely picking up.

Sometimes if you are waiting for an answer from Stephen Paul, you have to hang in until he gets a free moment. But it's usually worth it.

if you leave the tube drive down you generally get a sound like most other inexpensive solid state preamps.

the drive controls actually do work like drive controls on a guitar amp. fuzzes things up.

a real tube preamp is designed to be as clean as possible of course and the positive effects of overdriving the real tube amps are inaudible distortions. in other words one can overdrive a real tube circuit without hearing the distortion as distortion. you get a natural compression and dominant 2nd harmonic that fattens up the sound.

with the tube drives you can hear distortion right away. a very brittle high end fuzziness on vocals that gets extreme as you turn the knob.

useful?

"call me an asshole, call me the spam police, call me anything you want....im alomost positive Dragon wouldnt want anyone posting links to competing BBS's like that......"

Up until recently, that's been true. Waldo got threads deleted for a while for doing that until he negotiated an agreement with Dragon.

"call me a rocket scientist, but I'm guessing Dragon isn't appreciative of the fact that certain valuable forum members have been harassed to the point of departure..."

Also true. In fact, I'm guessing that Dragon isn't appreciative of many of the facts on the board these days. He isn't much in evidence.

"btw, anyone heard from Ed (sonusman) or Sjoko lately?"

Ed showed up briefly to badger people into buying Slack's extra copies of the HR.comp CD.

As a courtesy? I don't think it's that simple. Ask yourself a question: why would a pro come here in the first place? What's in it for the pro? All the pros here share their knowledge, but what are the motivations? In some cases, to demonstrate their superior knowledge - a kinda ego thing. In some cases, they like the atmosphere here. In some cases (one I think), to raise the general level of ignorance here a notch or two. In some cases, to improve sales. But primarily out of courtesy? Nah.

Okay, about the 'abuse'. About the anti-spam police. I've tried to bust spam on this board, but it isn't working as well as it used to when Dragon was here. But maybe that's what's not so clear here and now: spam used not to be tolerated here. Simple. And if you look at a lot of the people who give posters a hard time for advertising here, you'll find a high percentage of old hands among their number. Well, maybe the wind's changing, then, you say? Maybe some of these older posters should keep quiet? Hmm...

Some people say they're sick of the anti-spam police. Well, I'm sick of spam. So, who's right? Some people are willing to endure spam for the sake of knowledge. Some aren't. So, who's right?

Most wars are fought between sides that are partly right in their beliefs. They are ended or avoided by political solutions. The art of compromise, having to give up something to get what you want. It's not easy but a good politician knows he's done his job well when both sides think he's a weasel.

Hi Steve (Oz)
Nice to see you here as well. Thanks for the review of my new jazzy clip over at HarmCent.I went to RO originally because Harvey hosts a forum there. But even he rarely posts there.I see more of his wisdom right here!
