One thing I am kinda curious about...........

If this place is inhabited by no-talent know-nothings, why on earth would you take somebody's word about buying any piece of gear???

American Idol can't afford me. That's why they imported that illegal alien guy from Oz. He works for a pitcher of Fosters and all the cock he can get from the contestants..............

good point!! but I just say things when I'm mad, but I still haven't heard any good recordings from anyone!! and c7 is this what you call entertainment on an afternoon like this? man, get a real life..... I wouldn't even be here this much if I didn't take off work today!! and if you have over three thousand posts then why is it that you don't have a job? as much as you know you should be a sound engineer........ Oh, wait I answered my own question, you don't have a job!!

I play a lot of classical pieces that call for those "extra keys".
But they're not really extra. Your keyboard is just missing a few. ;)
I've heard emu. Wasn't impressed. But if you like it, great!
go to the site and checkout the upgrade rom for the classical sounds, they have mp3's on the site

I'm cut to the quick.............

I never said I'm an engineer.

That was you, remember?

Recording is one of my hobbies. Along with woodworking and a bit of lutherie.

BTW, what you have invested in your entire setup, I have just in guitars, mandolins, and other stringed instruments.

Not to mention what I've sunk into woodworking tools in the last couple years.

Believe me, I wanna job, and quick! Alan Hyatt is holding a Stephen Paul in the first run of 150, and I wanna be able to take delivery of that beauty this spring when they ship.

I want an Etch-a-Sketch with MIDI kazoos............ I've been searching for the last piece of the puzzle and I'm sure that's it!:D

Thats a new side business for me. Midi-enabled kazoos :)

Only $49.95 with 4 second warranty. Deal of a lifetime!

Does the Etch-A-Sketch control surface have automation?

I wanna see the knobs twist back and forth by themselves!

C7...

Knowing Frederic, his TOILET probably has animation...

Wow... what an.... hmmm.... unusual thread.

For 49.95 you have to turn your own knobs.

There is a midi-compatible automation kit available for $2199.95, of course.

Me? Naaaah. Though I did spend most of the day on conference calls, freezing by rear off installing cab lights on my truck. I should have waited until spring, but once the holes are drilled... thats that, must finish.

Definately an unusual thread... I twisted it because making fun of Jonathanz was just too easy/obvious.

Plus, you all did such a nice job :D

hahahaha...

*I* didn't make fun of anyone... not yet anyhow :)

OK, Jonathan, I'm ready to lighten up if you are - please re-read the line that got us all here in the first place - "I am one of few people who actually know what they are doing in a studio" -

Now, whether you knew what you were doing in a studio or not, if YOU were to read that statement don't you think it might piss you off just a little?

Well, surprise - others might just feel the same way...

There are all levels of experience on this board, all the way from "I just got a microphone for Christmas, why doesn't it make sound ", on up to people who've mixed Grammy-winning records.

I personally bought my first reel to reel tape recorder possibly as early as your DAD was born, and have rebuilt the third 2" Ampex video recorder that ever rolled off the assembly line (the one that's two models earlier than the transport that became the MM-1200, a 2" analog with either 16 or 24 tracks) - I've worked in audio and video as both a tech and a service manager with several techs reporting to me, etc - the list is much longer, but I'm sure you're already bored.

Michael Jones' piano alone cost more than all your gear, so he's not going to be impressed with Emu or any other electronic "wannabe" as far as sonics are concerned.

Please don't call an entire sentence a "typo" or whatever - what you said was inflammatory, and several people who've worked at least as hard as you and saved at least as long as you for the gear they've acquired, CALLED you on it.

I'm not still screwing with you, I'm laying it out as straight as I know how - it's a really necessary lesson to learn about life - if you insist on "poking a dog with a stick", then you should get used to getting bitten. Pretty simple.

Now, if you want to pull your foot out of your mouth and stop bad-mouthing people you don't even know, some of whom have been playing/recording music since before your DAD was born, then welcome.

If you'd rather stay pissed off and lose the chance to learn what/how to actually make your space into something usable, then it's easy - just keep acting like you didn't start this, and sooner or later we ALL will get tired of the "sport" and you'll be talking to YOURSELF. Now THAT'S boring.

Your choice, you might wanna think about it before you continue... Steve

You're such a gentleman Steve.

I would have just shoved a ham sandwich up his arse, put a paper bag over his head, and pushed him into traffic.

::shrug::

But thats me. I'm a prick.

Johnathanz, your display of recording bravado impresses no one here. Many members are long term professionals, who are generous with their time and experience regarding design, construction, and treatment of recording spaces. They willingly share information time and again, to help inform interested people how to improve the acoustical performance, soundproofing, electrical, HVAC and other aspects of recording
studio spaces. When people ask for help with their particular projects, it is usually given in abundance. But when someone posts a thread heading such as yours, what did you expect? Respect? On the contrary. You received exactly what you gave. None.
If you will accept it, I have some advice. This forum is dedicated to Studio Building. There are other forums for discussing equipment, techniques, Musical instruments, songwriting and many other recording aspects. Tell them how hot you are. If you want information regarding your rooms, then ask. On the other hand, if you have something to offer people in the way of construction advice, be my guest. Otherwise, your self declared credentials mean nothing here. Personally, I don't care if you have the best equipment on the face of the planet, if you have nothing to offer here, then what is the point of posting threads that only induce negative response? I replied in the manner I did, only because of your audacity. Over inflated egos simply amaze me sometimes, especially when I see members who are educated and experienced, humbly share years of their own enlightenment, without so much as a comeback or sarcastic remark when confronted by threads such as yours. Therefore, I can only regard your lack of respect as a maturity indicator. Not one of experience.

............................................ I've taken It all in and I'll just be real, because I am on the pc I can be rude and I can say anything that I please.... but I didn't mean to insult anyone.... ( in short I'm sorry)I'm sure that many of you have alot more experiance than me, I was simply making a reff. to where I am.. in louisville, Ky not where you are... If you knew my situation here then you would understand that I feel somewhat alone in my passion for music, (you don't hear of major talent coming out of KY al the time. NOT SAYING THAT I AM MAJOR TALENT EITHER SO DON"T FREAK OUT!!) So to be big headed about any talent that I have here isn't really saying much..... But, without offending anyone(I HOPE) my main experiance with music is that of a musician, not a sound guy until about 2 and a half yrs ago and I got a Job mixing in Louisville and I got fairly good ( I made good money at it, to me that is a good job) SO I was speaking from my experiance in this neck of the woods. (literally) Every big city I have been invovled with has been me singing and playing.... I'm just trying to setup something that I can get rolling well enough to move to the basement in my house. So I'm sorry.....(again) so If anyone has advice on what I can do to get by til' then I 'd like it!!!

Welcome to the board Jonathanz, your post sounds sincere. Hey, you think your isolated....I'm in Coos Bay Oregon:eek: So I understand where your comin from. But you've come to the right place for sharing an interest in recording. Now that we've got the introductions out of the way, :D where would you like to begin? :p

If anyone has advice on what I can do to get by til' then I 'd like it!!!

In which respect Jonathanz, treating the existing space?

Since when does going to this sight make you a recording engineer? And since when does hanging out on the computer all day make you the authority on recording........ ???????You people think your kool by catching people with the smallest things they say and going half way wanna be witty with it!!!

At what point did any of us make any actual claim to be a "recording engineer"? I was under the impression we were all here to learn and share ideas... and yes razz eachother with witty banter when we see what we percieve to be something funny...

And to be perfectly honest... I think that every single track I have heard on this entire site, namely the comp album blows chunks with the give in of maybe 2 tracks....

Opinions are like assholes... everybody has one. Don't like what you hear? Go somewhere else... don't like what you see? Ditto! ... Don't like what's on the CD... toss it...

You might have the best studio of all but I would have to say that all of you guys have ( 0 ) talent and Need to get some before you build your studios any bigger

Like anything else getting "talent" is a learning process... it takes time... and in this case access to equipment that allows practice... remember... some of us aren't born with the talent like you. (Or am I presuming too much? Did you actually have to learn what you know? If so... get over yourself... like I said... we're here to learn.)

and for you MR. Fatz needle dik you should keep your mouth shut because your really stinkin' up the place...... Your trying to come down on people like you are the authority in sound engineering and if you are then why don't you do it and make money rather than bomb people you don't even know.......

This is a personal attack... I have nothing to say in this matter.... I don't want to get involved in your personal problems with "MR. Fatz"

This whole forum is weak!!!!!!!

If you feel that strongly about this, then why not do something constructive? Like maybe answer some of our questions, or offer suggestions, or even post a few articles on what you percieve we need education on.

You joined this forum for a reason I assume... it was either to come here to learn or to offer your expertise and maybe mentor some of us... If you just came here to belittle those who don't (yet) have your level of skill then you're a sad sad man indeed.

Ok, we are past the whole arguing thing like i said," we all say things we shouldn't when angry"........ on to better things, I need some options on treating sound reflection (normally I'm in the studio and It's already been done so I don't fool with it) I'm making the transaction from an actual studio to a poorly built excuse of a studio ( my room ). So I am needing some help on placement ( of sound obsorbing pads) in general and I have already read all the help tip articles I can at this site..... I want actual response... so what do you guys need to know about my setup in order to answer my question?
