I'm trying to find a drop-in replacement for the Wilkinson trem bridge on my JapCaster. I bought one off ebay but it don't fit. The measurement between the (2 pt) mounting screws gotta be 2 3/16 inches or 57mm. Ebay sellers don't seem to be interested in providing measurement info, except 1 guy with wrong item. Any ideas????

All the Wilkinson stuff these days is being made by Gotoh (which is a good thing, as Gotoh does very good work on them). A new VS 100N should fit (your local music store can order them too - support local businesses!!!!) They are at a 2 3/16" post spacing, but more to the point the new ones (I think the old ones too, but I'm not sure) have a little wiggle room in the treble side knife edge. The VS 400 too, of course, but good luck finding one (I have to special order them direct from Gotoh myself).

if your local guy has problems getting one check the guitar fetish site (www.guitarfetish.com).

he has a number of wilkinson trems for sale.

check with him about the spacing, i think he would check one for ya. he's pretty good on his pricing too.

later...

I don't know how easy it is to get Gotoh stuff in the States but it's becoming increasingly difficult here in the UK. For example I use Gotoh 510's on all my builds these days. I used to be able to get them easily. This last year I've had to order direct from Gotoh, or or more specifically Hosco who make Gotoh stuff. The wait is months and minimum orders are rising.

I love the tuners and people seem to like the kidney shape buttons. I have moved off some Gotoh stuff because of availability.

I guess I didn't make my needs clear out front. I have a wilk now that I don't like. I want to replace it with a Fender USA deluxe style and I havent been able to find the right one that will be a drop-in replacement not requiring any mods. 2 3/16 spacing on the 2 screws and clearance below . Any help appreciated.

It's never been made. Sorry. You COULD, possibly, get one of the Gotoh 510 bridges, which have a long knife edge for the bass side, but they probably wouldn't center right on your guitar. But frankly, the Wilkinson bridges are better made than anything Fender is putting out these days (or, really, ever).

Well, I can get dad's tuners easily enough, but I use the locking ones on my guitars, which I could get easily if I wanted to use a 6-on-a-side peghead, which I don't, so I need to get them special ordered. One of my distributors can special order them for me in smaller quantities than I would need to do myself, so it's not a huge deal, but it can still be frustrating.

But yeah, the 510 gears are the shit. I won't use anything else, personally. The machining is so much better, as is the plating, and I love the shape. It just fits better with the look of a high end guitar, you know?

Which Wilkinson? The VS100, or one of their other designs?

I realize this is all personal taste, but I prefer the VS100 to the Fender american standard by rather a lot.
