Yep, he was pure energy and blues. Gave his heart and soul every gig. A sad day when he left us.

Very sad. He's one of the reasons I started playing, and because of that I'll always hold him in high esteem.

ike these need to be more specific. Basically, better at what? Better at what genre?

I agree with the earlier apples/oranges comment. These guys were two different people, playing in two different bands and playing essentially two different set lists.

And what about Johnny Winter? His name starts with a "J" and he started about the same time frame and he used both minor AND major scales interchangably.

i left it open like this to encourage discussion

Plus he's legally blind and an albino... and unlike page and hendrix - he's neither dead OR alive... sort of somewhere in between.

wait , i thought we were talking about hendrix and page not keith richards...man u talk about death warmed over...and over and over and over and over lol

I think Jimmy Page was probably better at snorting coke from a hooker's ass, but Hendrix was probably better at taking lots of acid and scaring the shit out of groupies with his "voodoo child

lol i damn near fell out of my chair when i read that...

prior to September 1970, who knows?

After that, I'd have to say Jimmy Page is better.

John Paul Jones is way better than Noel Redding.

But ultimately... who cares.

...not so sure...JPJ didn't have to keep time with Jimi Hendrix...different vibe entirely...I was a tour photographer (still in college) for Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Led Zeppelin, Savoy Brown, Fleetwood Mac, Humble Pie and many other British bands...for my money, Beck and Hendrix were the most unique and inventive live players...Page was tops in the studio, but live he was very sloppy...there was a small music industry club/hangout in NY back then (late 60's) called the Steve Paul Scene (owner Steve Paul managed the Winter brothers)...on any given night round about 2:30AM you could see the most amazing jam sessions depending on who was in town at that time...Hendrix (was there almost every night he was in town), Clapton, Page, Alvin Lee, Kim Simmonds, Rory Gallagher, Frampton, Beck, Peter Green, Ritchie Blackmore, Mick Taylor, and all the other "guitar gods" of the day could be seen jamming...Beck and Hendrix just brought more originality (IMHO) than the others...for me, it's all about "live licks", and Jimi and Jeff did it like no other...

Dude. YOU SUCK.

And I totally mean that in the envious "my job completely blows" way. ;) :D

I bet you've got some stories to tell...

Page was an innovator and a good guitar player.

That being said, I prefer Hendrix.

And I might get flamed...but I don't like Led Zepplin. Mostly because of Robert Plant. I don't care for his vocal style. I'm not saying he sucks. Just saying he's not my cup of tea.

Being biased as I am, I voted "Who cares".

:D:D:D:D:D

You forgot to say that Page made a better deal with the Devil than Hendrix did when they sold their souls to the Devil.

I'm assuming you know the story.

I thought it was the Plaster Caster? that scared everyone?:p

I bet you've got some stories to tell...

...actually I do my best not to bring it up because most people think I'm making it all up, but in fact, I was in "the right place at the right time" and landed the gig...mind you, it was strictly a commissioned gig based on the pics I submitted (I did also write the occassional "bio"for the artist's promo pack and even submitted a few album reviews which ended up, edited of course, in a couple of the rock mags at that time) but that was one job I didn't need to be paid to do anyway...

...there was that time driving around Manhattan at about 4:30 in the morning with members of the original Fleetwood Mac, stopping at all-night delis to purchase as many cans of Redi-Whip as we could find so that I could introduce them to the joys of nitrous-oxide (without tooth surgery)...some funny sh*t...:D

I know I'll get slammed for this but, neither one had any timing at all.......time signatures meant nothing, neither one could get in the pocket....its all over the recordings..just listen.

yes

i bet you'd also say Thelonius Monk had 'no timing'.

there's something you're not quite getting.
