Out of all the Jim g. players, it's gotta be Jim Hall for me - hands down/no contest.
Hendrix played outside of the box and took the g. places no g. had gone before - but it might have helped if he hadn't been so casual with his tuning. Probably the aggressive manner in which he bent notes on light gauge strings left the g. slightly out of tune for the duration of the most of the song. Page was a great rock guitarist, where as Hendrix was rock/jazz in my book.
But like I say... Jim Hall.

Ah my bad.Muttley,
I'm refering to Hendrix here, not Hall. Hall, as you say, has always been spot on in the tuning and intonation department. He is the king of laid back, mellow, phat, warm, clean tone not to mention his superb musicality and musicianship. Pity he is past his prime. It will be a very sad day when he passes on for me.
