CuBase 4 is my preference these days.

I have started live recording and used Tracktion 3 with no issues as well for live work I have a HD-24 in the system as well.
I use a Yamaha O1V96 for monitor / extra inputs and a RME audio Fireface 800 and a REM audio Octa mic 8 D
The computer is rack mounted (Built by me for me for my DAW)
I have no issues with the set up.
wow I mist the forum. The set up i have is similar to yours. I have a 24 channel phonic fire wire mixer, Pro Tools HD. built my computer as well to my specs. I believe great records can be made ITB in this era of great native plugins, and the right knowledge. IMO cheers!!!
