Ive always thought if i was on a desert island and only had one mic, at least in that price range and had to record something i would take the MD421.

Either that or spend a little more for a 441 but the 421 is awesome.

I think if i had an MD421 and two condensors for most projects i would be pretty satisfied. Just as long as i didnt have to record too many things at once. My cheap condensers of choice would be 2 SP B1s.

The MD421 is great, but it leaves me feeling cold and alone, so it's definitely not a desert island mic. The Beyer M88 makes me feel happy and loved, so I'd pick that. But really they are pretty similar. I think the M88 is better on vocals.

If I could step up from that range I'd go KSM44, which is the mic I wish I owned, although the KSM27 I have is pretty nice.
