If you haven’t heard, Waves has gone completely to a subscription based sales model.
From what I’ve seen, it’s pissed a lot of people off. No more support for those who have in the past purchased Waves outright.

I’m not a Waves user, so it has no effect on me, but I’m not a fan of the subscription model.

Thoughts?

I've seen multiple threads on Reddit today saying that they did walk that back, so a perpetual license is still available.

I read about that a couple of days ago and was going to post. I am a big Waves user, but think this is not going to work well for many. Lucky for me, I have what I need and don' really think I will be needing anything in the future.

With the DAW/plugin sector now reaching a maturity point they have move into an improved revenue generating model, seems like there would be a better way.

From a business model, not huge growth in upgrades and new users. Let's face it, there are not great reasons to upgrade your DAW or even OS these days. Now most software companies are just trying to survive.

I just got an email stating pretty much what was posted.

I don't have a single WAVES plug-in. Doesn't effect me at all. It does pretty much guarantee that I won't be using any of their plug-ins in the future. If there are other options, then subscription models are avoided like the plague.

So they U-turned and people are happy with waves now? they just proved what they think of you

get a spine

I understand that maybe that market is saturated and companies are struggling, but..... it seems that they’ve made enough money to develop other products they can sell.
Alienating your loyal customer base doesn’t seem like a good idea.

Seems like Waves got a good kick in the balls.

As a side note, I like hardware. It never becomes obsolete, it never needs upgrading, and I 100% own it. ;)
