This sounds really nice, as all of your stuff does. I hear a straight up Supertramp influence. If someone told me this was a Supertramp song, I'd believe them! I think it's the quarter-note pounding chords, although the harmonic vocabularly sounds reminiscent to me as well.

Anyway, I guess I'm the odd one out that thinks the snare sounds too dead and needs to wake up a bit. It's got a good tone, but it lacks excitement to me.

Most everything else sounds really nice to me, but the snare sticks out like a sore thumb to me. Weird.

Song is simply great.

Love the sounds on this. allthough I have to admit I lean more towards your former drum sound.
Dont get me wrong drums sounds good, I just liked the less proscessed drums you had before.

Killer rhodes solo, really gives me a Supertramp feel. Take the long way home to be exact.

Vox sounds great as allways, choir is awsome.

Incanus sure belts those basslines with real comittment, he`s bassing is flawless.

thanks for producing brilliant music guys.:)

nice job man... sounds great. My only comment is that the bass drum sounds a bit too slappy to me, almost like it's peaking. Other than that, this is a great recording.

Jesus, man!!!

I was scared I'd be a little disappointed after hearing all the hype about this tune. But, NO!!!!

That shuffle is great. When you go to the ride, it's meliflous. I really dig tunes that have parts that sound like different songs, but mesh perfectly.

I can't say enough about this. Your voice, the arrangement. The awesome chorus.....The beautiful drumming....etc...etc....

(I would just say that, on a personal level, I'd like to hear less low end and/or more snap on the snare. But I love the open sound you got on it)

Thanks, RAMI. I'm not a drummer - at least I didn't start out to be one - and I'm sure you hear all the little timing issues and inconsistent kicks that I do. But I appreciate you being kind. :D

Maybe we'll play with the EQ on the snare a bit. The room mic is probably 50% of the overall drum mix volume wise. I don't think we can do much about the snare there. But perhaps the "snap" can be brought out in one of the close mics.

Dude - you need to go post in the "golden ears" thread. :) Good catch.

SO good in SO many ways.
Super, I think the "issues" you refer to are humanising elements in your work that make the song even more attractive to the subconscious not to mention somnambulists (sorry trying to one up RAMI in the drop a word in session).
Where was I? Oh, truthfully a song I want to own!

I just snuck back for another listen. I can really hear the Steely Danness in the intro now - just the sophistication of the rhythm and melody against I think rather than a replication - cool though.
Interstingly the impression of other artists fades very quickly as I get into the song - it exists as an LPC song - what more could one ask?

This isn't my kind of music, but that's a very good and smooth mix. The vocals sound fantastic. The drums have a great natural sound to them, but I think the snare is a little fat. I'd maybe like to hear it a little tighter and snappier. Like a gentle scoop around 250 or somewhere around there. That's just personal taste though. It certainly works as-is. Overall a great job. :)

Are you kidding me??? I've been waiting 5 YEARS to use the word "meliflous".

Nice delivery. :)

It's coming soon. We're blowing our reproduction wad on WestFest, but we've still got 3 or four to go and then mastering....

Thanks for the advice. We'll check it out. Thanks, Mr. _L.

Holy smokes! This is fantastic. Love the cymbal work and BGV especially.

The passage from around 2:00 through 3:00 is probably my favorite section of any of your tunes I have heard thus far (that is quite a few). You guys should be proud.

I have downloaded this to add to the unofficial LPC album I am gradually assembling.

No advice from me you clearly know what you are doing, just a big thumbs up! :)

Thanks for the listen, Neeps!!

Thanks, dude - that means a lot to us. We were unsure whether a song needs two solos - let alone a bass solo. I think it works, even if it's a little long. We could always run a long fade. Like all our other songs. lol.

I have downloaded this

Wonderful song here as usual. For some reason, the two artists that came to mind while listening were Stevie Wonder, and a little beatles when the hapsichord kicked in. (Fixing a hole intro) Very good mix, there is nothing I can think of to be changed, and very good song all around.

man i can't believe i didnt see this thread earlier. this is a great tune once again man. the kick drum sounds awesome! very 3-D tone to it if you know what i mean. i wasn't liking the snare at first, but it really fits the song. the ring sounds great, just thought it was a little dull at first but got used to it. one thing is that my ears are flipping out from not hearing any guitar. there's certain spots, especially toward the end where i feel it would make the whole song sound much bigger with some guitars thrown in just to bring it to a full climax. but i think if it had guitars you'd definitely have to change the snare sound a little bit to get it to cut through. either way, it sounds awesome as is, very good drum sounds. is that X/Y stereo overheads?

We're still playing around with the guitars as well. I thought perhaps the intro needed them. The end might be difficult because of the BGV - well, I guess it depends. What sort of guitars did you have in mind? Like a countermelody, or slabs of powerchords, or an arpeggio? Or just something rhythmic opposite the piano?

We're checking out Gerg's suggestion for the snare, but we're eq noobs and get out into the weeds too easily. I think an issue is that the pitch is tuned really low, I was looking for a fatter snare sound.

Overheads are a pair of cardioid SDCs in XY with omni room mic about five feet back looking directly at the snare. Moving the room mic small amounts in any direction yields pretty big differences in sound, so we're working on that. Those three sources are phase adjusted with the snare. Levels between overheads and room are about equal.

upon further review, i wouldn't mess with the snare. i think it sounds perfect for the song, real big and boomy, it really hits you with the volume cranked. but like i said, if you were to add guitars or something that whole dynamic might change.

i think toward the end when the BG vox come in, that's where i'm really hearing the guitars. like a semi-dirty guitar maybe just playing some rhythmic chords, not quite like how the piano is doing, but maybe ringing out a bit more. with the whole thing culminating with at the very end with the guitars on that last ending note, would sound awesome. but like i said before too, the song works great the way it is now, and sometimes less is more. especially with an album in mind, this could be a totally different flavor. so it's really up to you dudes. ;)

i'm hearin something else now...like right after the bass solo (which sounds killer, btw), when you hear that reverse-verb or whatever that effect is when the pianos come back in at 2:50, i'm hearing guitars playing along with the main paino. just hitting the chords and letting em ring out. maybe with some trem & chorus, not up front but kinda in the back behind the pianos and panned out hard. just a thought.
