Evidently I'm still writing new material. I wrote this in my head and put it to tape last week. I think I've the basic bed to where I want it.

Lyrics:

Well these days it feels like no one comprehends
Why nothing goes right or according to plan
As things turn to dust while they spin out of hand
And the dark times just feels a great weight on our heads

Yeah sometimes it feels it is the end of the road
When mere existence seems a sensory overload
But remember coarse sand
It manufactures a pearl
So this is not the end of the world

How can you sit by while innocents are harmed?
How can you ignore all the crimes going on?
It’s like you’re confused between right and clear wrong.
It’s like something got turned in your head upside down

Good people watch as law keepers keep breaking all the laws
While folks in charge attack those they don’t like
And the party on the right stays mute while knowing what they know

And they know this is wrong
Seriously wrong
Criminally wrong

How can you sit by while innocents are harmed?
How can you ignore all the crimes going on?
It’s like you’re confused between right and clear wrong.
It’s like something got turned in your head all around
Which is why it all feels
Like it’s the end of the road
When mere living seems a massive overload
But remember that change
Can manufacture a pearl
And this is not the end of the world
No, this isn’t the end. It’s a start.
This is not the end

This is cool - reminds me of some early/70s Dan stuff. I want the instruments to be a bit louder and the vocals turned down. I really like the balance of the main vocal and harmonies. If possible maybe widen the instrumentation a bit, too? Otherwise a solid tune - gooood work!

Be careful what you wish for, because I did EVERYTHING you asked.

I'll be more specific.

I rolled back the vocals - both lead and background - slightly. A db or so each.
I took the acoustic guitar strumming far right, panned it center-ish, then added a wide soft chorus - letting the strum fill the whole soundstage.
The piano, which I'd set back in the mix, swings to far right and up more prominently.
The swirly guitar, also in the back (slight left of center) goes full left - slightly receded.
I pulled the organ and pads back to clear up frequency clutter in the middle.
I swapped out the snare sound for something lower - that doesn't compete w/ the jangle of the acoustics ...

... and the new mix is above.

Edit: Also below is the above mix w/ additional background parts:

Holy shit man this is great!!! Great work!!!! I seriously have goosebumps listening to this tune. The lyrics also seem very... current :P

Thanks so much. Comments like that are my return on the investment. It is a social commentary on current events regarding battle between good and evil playing out in the highest offices of power in the United States. It is like some people of a certain political persuasion have forgotten things learned in kindergarten, where a certain president is known to refer to that era of childhood as "the farm leagues".

I still want a tiny bit of pedal steel in it ... just to give it a touch more flavoring.

I'm also in my "clear my ears out" stage on the mix. I believe I'm in the ballpark of where I want everything, but there's probably a couple of tweaks I'll make when I get back to it.
