From what you've described, it sounds like the Twin was the only one with enough horsepower to keep up with what you're wanting. Did any of those amps have jacks for extension cabinets? I know it won't help with raw power, but maybe moving more air would help them overcome the super-drummer?

Lt Bob in the pirate suit reminds me of the movie "fast times at Ridgemont high" Where Judge Rienhold had to wear the pirate suit to deliver for the seafood restaurant.
hahaha

The Super Reverb would be loud enough. An AC30 is just loud enough.

All of the amps had jacks for an extension cab.

I obviously didn't try the amps with a full band, but I think I could just tell. Maybe with my Vintage 30s the 22w amps would work, but those speakers don't surf. :(

Sorry, apparently I'm just on a mission to convince you to buy a Twin and an MD-421 this weekend :D

Lol! There are worse things I could spend money on.

I'm not opposed to a Twin, I just need to hear one cranked....and attenuated. And I didn't wanna spend that much really.

Greg is the tone thread's guinea pig...He sorts everything out for us by going through all the trouble, then gives all us the fast-track on how to get there....:D

I'm just fortunate to live in a big city with lots of shops and I enjoy spending a day running around finger-banging everything I can get my hands on.

Besides the Supros, Fenders, and Vox stuff, I played a good amount of other shit too. The Orange Rockerverb is still very high on my favorite non-Marshall list. I'm seeing less and less Mesa stuff out and about. Actually, besides used stuff, I saw no Mesas today. Not one single new Mesa.

Oh, and I played some accordions. Like real authentic jumbo mexican mariachi band style accordions. I want one of those too.

So today me and the Hallmark tried out some amps for surf-punk madness.

Did you check out "The Penetrators" links I posted here for you yesterday (one page back)?
They're not exactly surf punk, but I think you might like them.
When I heard their song "Walk the Beat"...it reminded me of some of your stuff. The beginning is a little weird with that sc-fi noise, but then the song picks up as it progresses.

Fuck, no I saw it but couldn't check it right then and then I forgot. Will go back and look in a bit. Thanks.

Just gave it a quick listen. Not too bad. I'll investigate further. Thanks. :)

Hey Greg, I didn't see this until today, & it's gone, but if I'd known, I'd told you & you might've got a lot of stuff for free that you could flip for other gear....Kinda hard for me to believe, but apparently this guy has lots of $$$ to just throw around...

Wow, yeah I would have taken all of that dated cheese stuff and flipped it easily. Well, I would have kept the JMP-1 and power amp.

You know what I fucking hate? Amps that have features that won't work without the footswitch. All those Fenders I played today had to have the fucking footswitch to activate the tremolo. And I'm sitting here next to a $2000+ Splawn Quick Rod and I can't access the clean channel because I don't have the goddamn footswitch.

C****T! I'm getting old.
Watched about 30 seconds and I am tired out!

Gone back to my Chopin.

Dave.

PLEASE! Find you a used Boss TU-2 or a Korg Pitchblack, or hell, anything other than that one.
I have a Korg Pitchblack - it works well, is reliable and gives the same results as both my snark and a amp-sim tuner that I have.

Ok here's a little clip I worked on today...The clean sound here wasn't recorded with the EVH rig, I can't even remember which it was honestly, but more than likely it was the DSL's clean channel...The dirty guitars here are:

SG > EVH LBX > G12-65 re-issue > i5 (There is reverb on these guitar tracks, but no eq)

Amp settings:

15w mode
Red channel

Resonance:..........2-3
Gain:..................2
Bass:..................8
Mid:....................5
Treble:................6
Volume:..............3
Presence:............2

Mix 9-2

I didn't have the amp as wound up as I'd like, but I'm still trying not to be overly loud a lot here...Once in a while I can get by with, but not for hours on end like I was doing before...While this tone isn't terrible/bad to me, I probably need to get it up to around 6-ish, as that's where the sweet spot is for this little amp...

Lemme know what you guys think...

Miner, this sounds great - proper 80s style hard rock/metal.

The quest for tone that requires new learning - of chords for me anyway!
I've updated, after some time practicing, my latest song.
I used my Epiphone Sheraton II this time for all tracks - as the humbuckers seem to get a better response from the little amp I'm using.View attachment 97870 View attachment 97871View attachment 97872
There're L & R track of 5ths, L & R tracks of the new chords shapes and a little bit of arp. in the verses.
Oh, for experiment's sake I've changed the verse to minor as the song doesn't have too much in dynamics.

How's the tone now that there's more top end via the chord shapes, more push from the guitar and the key difference?

Ray, as has already been mentioned there's some tuning issues here that aren't to do with chord voicings I think there might be the odd change where you're playing a minor and a major at the same time though.

This is an interesting cool song though and will sounds great when its done

but am conscious that they all vary somewhat and wanted to stay with the just one for the project. I suppose I can retrack the bass if they're out.

But do they? I've never noticed it. I have five different tuning options on various bits of gear/software and I never cared much which I used - always seemed pretty much the same to me.

OK, New tuner - no worries - a bit pricey down under but which Pitchblack?

I have a venerable Boss TU-12 which still appears to work which I can't imagine I'll ever use in the future. PM me an address and I'll post it down to you - not doing me any good sitting at the bottom of the bits and pieces gear box. I'll leave the battery out as you're not supposed to post batteries - standard 9V.

Least I can do for a man who bought so many copies of my album.:thumbs up:
