The New Tone Thread

technically 15 watts isn't much softer than a 50 watt amp and even compared to a 100 watter, it's over half as loud.
The rule of thumb is to get twice as loud you need 10 times the power.
So a 100 watt amp is only twice as loud as a 10 watt amp ..... making a 15 watt amp maybe 3/4 as loud.

Cool Bob, I like the way you go into detail about stuff like this for a numb-skull like me...The amp just surprises me, as the Tweaker I had was 15w, but it didn't seem near as loud as the LBX...Probably just me though...Thanks again dude!!!

Tad: Well, I gotta admit I have been cranking up a lot lately, mainly because I love the way this amp sounds/feels/responds to my playing. I can understand her point, but I'll still be able to do my thing...

Miner, why don't you go and have a chat with her? You might find out that there's a bunch of times every day when it's not a problem for her and work around those times.

kind of quiet in here.
I might as well post some rockabilly tones.
this is a vintage strat going through my fender mustang modeling amp. I think the preset is " dying deluxe".
I tweaked it a bit to somewhat simulate an old hollow body Gretch that was popular for the genre and era. While it may not be a convincing Gretch simulation....it didn't sound too bad so I quit tweaking and just went with it.

Jimi, sounds really cool (You're a lucky bastard to be able to sing like that too). I don't know much about it and what tone you're going for but it does sound like a good guitar sound that's been recorded well.

One thing I did notice though, particularly when you're playing the lead bits, is that the tone sounds quite modern. I know that's probably not what you're going for so you might want to look at it. There's nothing wrong with it though.

Thanks JDOD.
I completely destroyed my voice with cigarettes and whiskey, when I was playing live in clubs. I can't even listen to the old live recordings because my singing sounds so bad it's embarassing.
I quit smoking and drinking about 9 years ago and, by the grace of God, I got my voice back.

Singing is one thing that's never been my job in any band, thankfully. I'll sing backups, and I'm an adequate singer for the music I play, but being "the guy" is not anything I've had to do since having a high school punk rock madness party band. My guitar gig is just guitar. I don't even sing backups in that band, and it's wonderful. No mic, no mic check, no having to hear my voice in a monitor, it's great.

I do sing backups in my drumming band. I hate it, but that music is better with backups.

It's nice when when you only have to focus on the playing. I never minding the singing in the bands, but it does add another layer of focus to what you are doing...plus, you're kinda tied to that one spot, in front of the mic.

Right. I don't mind backups, but I don't want to be the singer. I love being the guitar player that has nothing to do but play and rock poses. I don't even want to banter with the crowd. No "thanks for coming, buy our shit", etc. The less you hear me talking, the better for everyone. Stand me up, plug me in, and off I go.

On drums, I'd rather not sing backups, but it's not a big deal. I'm just sitting there anyway. The singing and drumming comes pretty easy to me. Having a mic hanging down in my face is the sucky part. But there's no way in hell I'm doing the headset mic thing. That's mega-cheesy.

Nice! But it sounds a little like "Stairway".

Sounds pretty good Jdude...Your style is kinda in the same vein as Greg, punk from hell, but you've also got the grunge influence which IMO makes an interesting combination...Every clip you post seems to get better...:)

You never did answer if you're interested in some free drum samples dude...You'd have to install the free Kontakt 5 player, & it runs in demo mode, but none of it will cost you anything...Lemme know...

This really rocks man! It should be the foundation for a damn good rock tune. I just listened on my phone with the cheesy built in speaker, cause I'm in my office at work, so I can really critique the tone.
Rock on!

Cheers miner, I'm just getting more used to how to record properly with my gear. They were just first takes smashed out to check the tone. I'll do a bit of work on how I actually want to play it and then record it properly over the weekend.

Mate, I'd love any samples you can give me to help with my drums!

It being early morning here and not quite being awake I downloaded this and had a listen and thought "that sounds pretty cool" and got all the way to the end before I realised what it was... :laughings: Nice.

Excellent. That's a result then!

Greg, let 'em hear No Woman No Cry. That's a cool cover/twist.
I would love a copy of your covers album - I've heard a few of them & enjoyed each.

That's probably the best thing I've heard from you yet. Good tones for that.

Cheers, mate. I'll hopefully post up the completely instrumental of it over the weekend.
There's going to be a lot of lead breaks (not solos exactly) in it, so I'll have to work out what I'm gonna do with all them. Don't want it to be repetitive but don't want it to resort to fret-wanking either.

I've just woken up to the news that the UK has decided to destroy itself.
