well ..... the Mesa Blue Angel is significantly broken ..... lol.
So onto the pile of discarded amps she goes!

nah ..... though I do have such a pile of amps awaitin' fixin' ..... I kinda like the Blue Angel so I'm gonna dive into it tonight I think.

I pulled the power tubes and it still blows the fuse ..... I'm gonna try replacing the rectifier tube and see if that's it ..... but there's a nasty hum coming from one end of the amp before the fuse blows so I think it's gonna be parts ordering time.
Sounds sorta like a tranny buzzing mechanically but you usually smell a tranny if that's what it is.

In the meantime ..... well, I use the Ampeg GVT-5H for my real soft type gigs.
But I've been doing a lot more band work recently and I have one tomorrow night so what shall I do?

Let's see ..... I don't really want to take the Mark V on these outside gigs .... whatever you use gets rained on and sand and salt in it and the sun beating down on it ..... it's really hard on gear and that Mark V is a complex amp with a lot of stuff to go wrong.
But the Hot Rod deVille is blowed up too and so is is the Ampeg Reverbrocket .... the Marshall is too fragile ........ well, either the Tiny Terror or the Ampeg V-2 I guess.
I just might break out that V-2 tomorrow night ...... but the Terror is so small.
What a quandary .................. :D

I'll use the same speaker in either case .... a 75 watt 10" Eminence that's a really great speaker.

I'm gonna have to fix some of these amps and finish building that guitar ......... :laughings:

No seriously ...... I'm gonna get right on that , I swear!

Use the Marshall! Break that bitch too! :D

If you do fix all these amps, let us know the details. I wanna learn how to fix shit.

Minerman: Good, I'm glad they got there. Did you notice the box I put them in? I went to a liquor store to grab a box and the one that said "Gay Rum" on it just had to be the one. Lol. Credit to the USPS and UPS for getting both of our shipments to us a day early, and pretty much at the the exact same time. Mine got to me around 1 pm, which is 2 pm your time. Freaky. I guess the ponies were running top speed these past few days.

LOL, yeah dude, that's the first thing I saw when I came in last night....the big red gay rum box...LOL...I was surprised what I sent out got there as quick as it did myself....And again, to be honest, I was worried it'd get thrown around & possibly damaged...Cool they arrived about the same time too.....I bet those 2 companies were in competition with one another saying "if we get 'em there before the "other" guy, they'll use us from now on"...LOL...

Still laughing about the box though, & I'm gonna keep it to store the speaker(s) that aren't in use in too...LOL....

Bob: Keep us informed dude, like Greg, I'd like to learn how to fix a few things, as of now, I could probably change a fuse if I could find it....LOL...

First clip with the T-75, I added some fx in the daw, put the '57 in the cap/cone positon, & the C1 behind the speaker....

I'll post the amp settings tonight as I'm literally outta time, & will have to really rush to make it to work on time....LOL

Minerman, I see what you've been saying about me dude! lol, j/k.

Hi guys, yes I got the interface from Minerman the day before yesterday. Thanks MM! I think I'll probably try to hook it up this weekend and see if I can figure out how to use it.

I was thinking about buying a new interface, but I'm concerned that my computer isn't going to be compatible with many of them. I have to use XP for my version of autocad (how I make my living) plus I only have 960 MB of RAM. I was thinking about upgrading my memory, but that will still leave me with XP so now I'm thinking about buying a used laptop with a newer OS to use just for recording. I have so many questions, but don't know enough about it yet to know what questions to ask. I was looking at the M-Audio, but decided the guy was just trying to sell me something so I'm not anymore. I don't know what I want until I've done more research. I've been told I need to learn about latency.

Anyway, I'm here and I'm a total noob. ...just wanted to say hi and I hope to learn a little something. :)

Steve

Hot damn, well you found the low end! That sounds pretty awesome to me. That mic behind the speaker does good for your setup. I think that speaker was maybe your missing link. Suits your style very very well. Very full and rich sounding. Awesome!

Hi Steve. Minerman's been talking about you for a while now. Welcome to the site. Just so you know, this thread is originally about just posting up some tones and talking guitar/amp shit. No judgements, and you don't need to be a virtuoso (as evidenced by own shit clips). Just puke up some tones and lets' hear em!

Hi Greg, thanks for the welcome. I have a lot to learn and I'm just going to do a lot of reading and try to catch on to the lingo, but I figured I'd say hello and make my first post here since this is where he's been talking about me. lol! Most of this is way over my head right now, but Minerman has really been trying to help me. I have a lot of things going on so it might take a little while to get into it.

I tried to post the clip I made of the new amp I just built that started all this, but I see I have to have 10 posts first. :(

Go up to the new members newbies section. There's a thread in there called "get your 10 posts" or some crap like that. Go to that thread and just make 10 random nothing posts. Count to ten by ones or something. Then you can post links.

Thanks man, I found it.

This is my 18 watt Cameron Jose HG that I built with the help of a couple of great guys over on the marshal forum. (because I got screwed and know nothing about amps and these guys were awesome enough to help me fix it...long story) It took me hours and well over 100 tries before I came up with a clip worth posting. It's rough and was supposed to be a lot longer and go from clean to dirty and showing a couple of features, but I couldn't get the recording to come out good and in the end I was just ripping something off quick to get a clip up for the guys over there.

It was recorded with an Olympus voice recorder set about 1 ft in front of the speaker a little off center. The recorder picked up a little noise and seemed to amplify it louder than the actual recording. I don't know why, the amp isn't that noisy.

Damn you built that? Very nice. I'm impressed and jealous. I'd love to built my own amp. Sounds pretty ballsy. I like it. It sounds sort of similar to my 2204. It would appear that your voice recorder thing has some kind of compression built in. The way that noise ramps up when you aren't playing is a tell-tale sign of compression. Minerman says he sent you an interface or something? That'll get you going. Slap a SM57 in front of that speaker and you'll get some clean tracks.

So what guitar? Pickup? Amp settings? Speaker? Do tell! :)

I hope I'm not out of line here telling the story and posting pics, but I'm no amp tech/builder and I want you to know where I'm coming from so there's no confusion. This is also what led to my being here...

It's a long story, but in a nutshell...I bought this amp off a guy that claimed to be a pro and this was supposed to be the first of his new line. I bought the amp for the price of the parts alone so I didn't spend a whole lot. It was supposed to be his own design, but it turns out he just stole the circuit and did some mods to it.

Anyway, after owning it for several months it developed a problem and I had to open it up and I was sick at what I saw. This is where the long story gets short...the guy didn't have any money to give me a refund and after the truth was made public he decided to offer me a new one and I told him to go screw himself (in so many words) and set out to prove that someone with no experience what so ever could do a better job and I did. He's disappeared now and no one's heard from him since I started, lol!

So with the help of a couple of guys that took it upon themselves to help me out and even donated some of the parts, I removed all the BS mods he did and built the Hose HG that it was based on. Now I have this killer amp that's not only safe now, it sounds better than it did before and I got a hell of an education along the way.

Here's a before and after pic of the guts...

My settings were (in o'clock)...presence 3, bass 10, mids 11, treb 1, volume 11, gains 1 & 2 dimed. I added a sag mod and that was on and I also added a resonance knob and that was set about noon. 60s Tribute LP with MHD Asylum + (A2) bridge pickup, Sourmash 112 cab with a WGS Green Beret.

Here's the beast, I call it my Lil' Devil...

I might have a new toy tonight!!!! Fingers crossed. I am sure most in here won't share in my excitement and will laugh heartily at me, but for me this is so awesome!

When i was shopping for my first guitar ever i couldn't get my hands on one and cost at the time was sort of a deterrent. BUT! today found an ad on a local classifieds and i don't think buddy knows what it is he has for sale! (If it was what he says it is) It's an older Sparrow Rat Rod. And it isn't one of the ridiculous ones with fruity flames and pin striping all over it. Just a nice cool black guitter!!! Canadian Assembled (It's o.k. i can take a few wisecracks at least it isn't assembled in China Right ??), Les Paul knock off, but they put alot of quality electronics and fine tuned the shit out of them. Sort of really had a place in the roots of the Canuck punk rock and rockabilly scene. They are now defunct and going under a different banner now i beleive. Anchor Guitars?

I want it!! and for the price he is asking i am crazy not to. I never impulse buy. Ever. But this is the guitar i wanted when i couldn't have it and now i can have it sort of thing. Ya know?

Test Drive in a few hours. Let's hope it is in decent shape and it is what he says it is.

Wow, is that hot glue in there? Wires just twisted together? WTF? That sucks that you got shafted, but your end result is friggin awesome. That's a really clean looking assembly inside and classy looking on the outside. You did a phenomenal job. I've been thinking of trying to build a kit myself, but I'd probably die.

So who was this "builder" that did that "work"? This site gets a lot of google search result traffic. If we type his name it'll come up in searches and people can see what a loser he is.

That's a cool looking guitar (I googled it). Does it have the Bigsby style trem? How much you gonna spend?

It looks like my Avatar 2x12 for a 1960B trade is a go. I hadn't heard from the guy for a few days so I sent him a "so what's up?" message. He responded that he had gotten some cash offers and he was considering them. So I told him it was no problem and that if they fell through I'd still be open to trade. If not, no sweat because I'm not trying to get rid of the cab anyway. It's here if he wants it, if not no big deal. Well I just got a text, his cash deals fell apart, and the trade is back on. Probably saturday.

Nope. No bigsby. Just the tune o matic! Turns out it does have some graphics on it but it is painted black on black and it is just kind of feather wings, not 100% my style but I don't see any stage time anymore and from a distance you can't see it. So whatever. This guitar is physically heavy. It's set up for white boy blues playing but it sounds pretty rad plays really easy and,

Should he accept my offer I am getting it for practically nothing. 400 bucks. He'll throw in a little fender mustang 1 for a little extra. And that thing is still brand new. Tags and the power cord is still twist tied.

Turns out he bought it on impulse and the wife didn't approve.

Stay tuned :)

man, that's a sweet job you did on this !

awesome .... I wanna see pics when you get it.

Signal chain & amp settings for the last clip:

LP > SD-1 > DSL-1 > T-75 > '57 & C1

SD-1:
Level: 10
Tone: 2-3
Drive:4

DSL-1:
1w mode
Red channel
Bass: 10
Mid: 6
Treble: 7-8
Deep: On
Tone Shift: Off
Volume: 10
Gain: 4

Of course, I added some fx in the daw, but the base tone is great with the new T-75, it pairs well with the 'lil DSL I think....Something else I've been thinking about tonight at work is doing some more tube rolling....I've got those Tung-Sol tubes that smoothed the highs out too much with the Ibanez, may do the trick with the LP....might get around to that in a day or so....Right now though, happier than I've ever been with my 'lil recording setup, the new speaker made all the difference in the world to me...Thanks for the listen(s) & replies...

Almost forgot, the clean tones in this clip are the green channel, same eq settings, volume & gain dimed....The last dirty section is with the SD-1 on the green channel too....Love the little amp, but even more so now with the new speaker, & I haven't even tried the V30 yet to see if it's any different than the one I had....

Greg
: Yessssss!!!!! Love the T-75 dude, that's the ticket I've been after all along...Fuck me sideways....LOL...I do have to say, the mic in the back of the ISO cab did help a lot though, & I flipped the phase on that track in the daw, made the bottom sound big....Love the new speaker, I haven't tried the V30 yet, but I'll get around to it either tonight or tomorrow.....Thanks for the trade/sell dude, plus the little tip about putting the 2nd mic behind the speaker....Finally, I'm making some progress....after almost 2 years of this shit, I'm pretty confident I can record my amp(s) & get pretty close to the sound I've been after....LOL....:D.

Cool on the cab too dude, let us know....

Shan: If that's the guitar you want man, go for it....nothing wrong with it at all, & nobody can tell you what you like dude....keep us informed...we want pics if/when you pull the trigger...

Steve: Well, I was wondering if you were gonna show your mug 'round here or not, but, here you are....BTW, you mentioned telling BB to "screw" himself....we say fuck around here dude, while I love the Marshall forum, this is the "Toan Thread"...:laughings:.

We all know you're gonna have a lot of questions, & it's all greek to you dude, but, that's what this thread is for, so a hack like me can learn about getting as good a recorded guitar tone as possible, with the gear on hand....There are no judgements on playing skills here, just the tone....That's why I've been after you so much to join in....I have to say, this is the best thread I've ever been involved in, period....We do get a little crazy now & again, & we do get the occasional troll (like Groovy...whatever happened to Groovy, Greg??? LOL...), but all in all, this is a super thread dude....glad to see you're finally here!!!!

You're being modest about your amp dude, it was a trainwreck when you opened it up, I'd went off on BB, probably to the point of maybe driving up north & getting physical or something....You did a super job re-building that amp, & from the little I've heard, it sounds great...We'll get you up & running before too long, you just gotta have patience, & desire to get the sound on "tape"....that's it....Again, glad to see you here dude....

Thanks man, I couldn't have done it without the coaching. The builder was BillyBlades - Blades Amplification. Yes that's hot glue, lol!

man, that's a sweet job you did on this !

Thanks Lt!

Yeah I figured what the hell, I should go ahead and introduce myself. Seems like a cool place, I'm just totally out of my element. Thanks man, I'm sure I'll figure it out. I already know more than I did.

I didn't know how it is over here with cursing so I was being cautious, lol!
