Yeah man, yours is on the way. Sorry I couldn't talk more, I was elbows deep under the hood of a car.

I'm glad I can fix anything on a car, but it's also a burden. Whenever I get a phone call from someone I don't talk to very often, I know immediately that they're having car problems.

No biggie dude, I know everyone's got shit they gotta do....

It's like that for me too, except it's electronic shit most of the time...LOL...I wired up a couple car stereos years ago, & now they think I'm an electronics wiz.....LOL...If they only knew...:laughings:

Clips sound cool man, the last one reminds me of the movie "Blow" with Johnny Depp...about the cocaine dealer/kingpin.....To be honest, it's a tad much 'verb even for me, but they do sound pretty authentic/close to the originals....good job dude...

No work 'til Monday....:):):):)

Haha, thanks bud. No reverb or too much reverb is all I can do. For real. All of my music is dry as a bone or surftastic. :D

love those - Greg, that's a really good sounding reverb.
Thanks man.

oh, and back on the topic of lowering the volume of NMV amps, I was just having a great time with the attenuator and my '71 JMP, and it sounded killer, but then I moved the dial of the attenuator a notch (from the 2 position to the 3, I think - they're detented by not marked) and the amp went silent. Turns out I blew the 1 amp fuse - I replaced it and ran the amp straight to the cab and it seems fine - whew. Of course, I assumed the worst at first. So anyway, I may not have cojones for using the attenuator with that amp, which sucks, because it really did sound good.
Yikes. Glad it all worked out. I had a PPIMV put on my Plexi RI and it works great. It tames the beast, but it does cost some tone if you bring it waaaaaayyy down to like jamming at night levels. But really no big amp that I've ever heard sounds 100% right when you choke them down that much. At very low levels it gets a little fuzzy. I'm okay with that. That's not what the amp is for. A monster truck isn't the best vehicle to take to a grocery store. :D But anything louder than a TV sounds great and cranking the master volume takes it out of the circuit and it goes back to working like a normal NMV amp.

Keeping our thread alive here guys, just a quick-n-dirty little song/mix thing, I was mostly messing around with Jamstix 3, trying to learn how to use it a little better to be honest....May turn this into a song eventually, who knows....

LP > SD-1 > T15/DSL-1 > Greenback > '57/C1 > Reaper

As usual, I added a little room 'verb in the daw, but other than that, no post-processing on these tracks....

Left guitar (T15 > Greenback w/'57 mic):
SD-1:
Level: 10
Tone: 3-4
Drive: 0

T15:
Modern
Master: 5-6
Brit tonestack
Treble: 9
Mid: 5
Bass: 10
Clean
Gain: 10
Bright
Normal

Right guitar (DSL-1 > Greenback w/C1 mic):
SD-1:
Level: 10
Tone: 3-4
Drive: 3-4

DSL-1:
1w mode
Green channel
Bass: 10
Mid: 8
Treble: 5-6
Deep: On
Tone Shift: Off
Volume: 10
Gain: 10

Lately I'm really liking the green channel on the DSL-1, while the red is great, it's got too much gain at times, so I'm thinking of buying some different od pedals to use for different sounds through the green channel....

Lemme know what you guys think.....

Oh yeah, I'm still trying to convince my buddy to come over & participate in our little thread, he's getting a pretty good idea of what he needs/wants gear-wise, & had a pretty good talk with a guy at his local GC (he said that helped him understand a lot of things...), so maybe he'll come over when he gets his gear....

And, me & the Gerg did the speaker swap, so I'll have another V30 (should sound the same I'm guessing....unless his is way more broken in than the one I sent was...), & a T-75 around Wed, so, I'll have some more clips with the new/different speakers then...I'm actually pretty stoked about 'em to be honest....

Off to check on my Mom, be back in a couple/few hours...

Sounds great man. Needs bass. :D

Sounds like you got the brightness issue sorted out.

Thanks dude, I'm gonna work this into a song I do believe....I was actually just fucking around with Jamsitx more than anything, to see if I could get it to do what I wanted, in as less/little time as possible...

Sounds like you got the brightness issue sorted out.
You know, solo'd, these tones are about as bright as the others I posted, almost, but, in a mix, they don't come across nearly as harsh/bright....Lovin' the LP dude, just lovin' it....

I think it's time for me to roll up my sleeves, & actually finish a bunch of these songs I've put on hold all this time....Yeah, these family/personal problems have put everything on hold, but I think it's time to move on...Wish me luck....LOL....

Can't wait 'til the speakers get here Wed dude....pretty stoked actually!!! :guitar:

Cool man. That just goes to show that everything changes in a mix. When I'm auditioning tones for my own songs, I always put them with some scratch bass and a drum loop. As fun as this tone thread is, I never use just raw single guitar tracks for any kind of decision making.

In other news, my insanity might be taking another step further as I've found another B cab for sale or trade from a guy wanting to downsize for a 2x12. I've offered up my Avatar 2x12 as trade bait to see if he's interested. He is, so we're in the questions and answers phase right now.

Absolutely dude....you know, I went through my project folder last night, & I've got about 10 songs that are about halfway/half-assed done, so, I made a new folder, & put all those songs in there....I've been working on one of 'em this morning, & feel like I'm finally gonna make some progress with 'em....You wouldn't believe how many projects I've got saved on that hard drive, that are just tone chase things....But, I'm gonna do my best to keep after these songs, & finish 'em up dude....Probably not gonna post any of 'em, until I think they're "done"....if that ever happens...LOL....

But back to the tone thing, I re-tracked some of the guitars on a song I started in July '12...yeah, it's been that long dude...The original guitars in that song were done with the Blackstar HT-5....LOL...Just gonna take me a while to get back into the swing of it, but again, gonna do my best to finish these songs up....

After listening this morning to what I recorded last night, the guitars sound a little thin to me, so it's back to tweaking the amp/cab/mic, but, I'll get 'em....Plus, the other speakers will be here in a couple of days too....Stoked!!!!

Wow man, is there anything wrong with the B cab you're looking at??? I know you said the guy wants to downsize, but, are you gonna trade even (your 2x12 for his 4x12)??? Wow....Keep us informed dude, sounds great!!!! What kind of speakers are in the B cab???

Couple more days & I'll have my V30 & T-75....going over all these scratch guitar tracks, practicing up on 'em, & gettin' ready for the "real" recordings in a day or two.....I'm actually pretty stoked about the new speakers coming my way....

Again, keep us informed/updated on the trade Greg....yeah, you are insane!!!! LOL...

Off to work in a few.....

Yeah I'd trade even. That's the only way though. I'm not kicking in any cash because I'm not looking to get rid of the 2x12 or get another 4x12. He wants a 2x12, I have one, and he has something that I'm interested in but don't need. Know what I mean? Supply and demand! As far as I know nothing's wrong with it but a few small tears here and there. That stuff doesn't concern me. It's a 900 cab so it has G12T-75s. I'm gonna pop some of my extra 75s in the cab and let it go like that.

Awesome Greg....I like how you deal man, "take it or leave it....fucker..."...LOL...If he's really wanting to trade even, I'd jump on that myself, wish I had the room for one 4x12 (well, I've got the room/space, actually being able to use it is my problem...)...

FWIW, my buddy got the interface I sent him today, not sure when he's gonna start the recording thing, but it shocked me he got the package so fast....I'm still trying to get him to join in our little thread, we'll see I suppose....

Gonna grab a shower, some supper, & get some sleep....my cold seems like it's wearing off a little, but it's been a killer when I first get up....I'll find out in the morning....

Keep us posted on the cab trade dude.....and, can't wait to get the 2 Celestions!!! :guitar:

Haha, Well I aint a dick about it. Lol. I do feel though that I've become pretty shrewd when it comes to the craigslist dealings. You offer something ridiculous, sometimes they take it. I'm not hosing this guy though if he takes the trade. He's looking for a 2x12 to replace his 4x12. Mine's essentially brand new. I think its a good trade for both of us, but I'd be okay if it doesn't work out.

From what I've seen at the Marshall forum, he'd be better off over here.

Yeah dude, I didn't mean it to come across like that....just bullshittin'....I've only did one CL deal, when I traded my Line 6 Spider Valve for the POD X3L, GuitarPort interface, a handful of new guitar cables, & some cash....But, I've read a lot of shit about CL deals, & that's something I'm not prepared to tolerate (the bullshit some people try to pull anyway...)...I say go for it dude, you'll only come out ahead IMO if the guy trades....

From what I've seen at the Marshall forum, he'd be better off over here.
He told me over the weekend he was looking at an M-Audio interface (which might be ok), & Pro Tools....I told him to stay away from Avid/Pro Tools, but dunno if he'll listen or not dude....I told him he's already got the best daw out there, Reaper...We'll see I suppose...

They should be there tomorrow!
Just checked the tracking #, & they're supposed to be here by the end of the day today....Probably will arrive about an hour after I leave for work, but that's ok, they'll be here when I get in tonight!!! Pretty stoked dude, & I'm really curious to see if the V30 I'm getting from you sounds any different than the one I had....they shouldn't, but, I'm still curious....and, I bet the T-75 will sound good with the DSL, especially for my cheesy 80's metal tones....LOL....

FWIW, it seems the cold/flu thing is moving on, I've coughed up a bunch of shit this morning, maybe it's working it's way on out....sure hope so, as I've felt like stir-fried-shit the past couple of days....

Got the place to myself until I leave, so gonna open the daw & piddle with a song or two....:)

The V30 I sent you has had some serious volume pumped through it, so it should be nice and softened up. Lol. I got them brand spanking new and I do think they sounded better and better as time went on. Maybe they broke in more, maybe I just got more acclimated to them, but they sounded great. You'll hear that the 75 is like a negative image of a V30. Where the V30 is strong crunchy midrange and not a lot else, the 75 is tame in the mids and powerful in the lows and highs. Some people say they sound "scooped", but they aren't. They just have a powerful low end. I think mic position is a little more critical on the 75s. You can mic a Greenback or V30 pretty much anywhere and sound good. The 75 is a little more picky to me.

the best way to get a good deal is to not give a crap whether you get it or not.
I got my Mesa Blue Angel for 500 bucks because I had enough amps and really didn't care. The guy kept trying to bump up the price because it was absolutely worth more and I kept saying "I don't even really want it so I'll give you 500 and not a penny more" ..... if he wanted more he needed to sell it to someone else.

Exactly. You lose leverage when you really want something or really need something. I'm not looking to dump my 2x12 and I'm not actively seeking another 4x12. But if he wants the trade, I'll do it. If he doesn't, then that's okay too.

Cool Greg, pics & clips sometime tonight if I'm not dead tired after work....pretty stoked, as I've been wanting another speaker for a while now, & my gear collection is growing slowy, but surely :).....It's funny though, I've kinda got the "mini-me" versions of Greg's gear....LOL...

Hello everybody,
would you give me some feedback for the guitars? I posted this song in the mixing clinic, and have been directed to this thread :) https://homerecording.com/bbs/general-discussions/mp3-mixing-clinic/my-first-mix-kemper-365616/

here it is:
https://soundcloud.com/montgomery-horm/crystal-clear-4

Well the guitars sound nice. What amp's essence did you steal with that Kemper?

Minerman, my speaker showed up today. Dude, you packed THE SHIT out of that thing. Lol. Safe and sound. Thanks buddy! :)

Gonna pop it in the B cab now....

Fortenhell: Guitars sound good man, bass does too....is the bass tone/sound the Kemper too??? The vocals remind me of Roger Waters/Floyd....I really like the guitar & bass tones though man...

Ok dude, I hadn't checked the thread tonight, ignore the pm if you wanna....I told you it was almost waterproof just from the tape, & that's not counting the bubble-wrap, old towels & newspapers I stuffed in there....LOL...To be honest, I was worried to death something would happen to it during the trip to TX, but, apparently, I did ok keeping it safe....LOL....And, you're very welcome, thanks for doing the sale/trade with me!!!! :D

Gonna grab a shower, something to eat, & pop one of the new speakers in the ISO cab:

:thumbs up:

well ..... the Mesa Blue Angel is significantly broken ..... lol.
So onto the pile of discarded amps she goes!

nah ..... though I do have such a pile of amps awaitin' fixin' ..... I kinda like the Blue Angel so I'm gonna dive into it tonight I think.

I pulled the power tubes and it still blows the fuse ..... I'm gonna try replacing the rectifier tube and see if that's it ..... but there's a nasty hum coming from one end of the amp before the fuse blows so I think it's gonna be parts ordering time.
Sounds sorta like a tranny buzzing mechanically but you usually smell a tranny if that's what it is.

In the meantime ..... well, I use the Ampeg GVT-5H for my real soft type gigs.
But I've been doing a lot more band work recently and I have one tomorrow night so what shall I do?

Let's see ..... I don't really want to take the Mark V on these outside gigs .... whatever you use gets rained on and sand and salt in it and the sun beating down on it ..... it's really hard on gear and that Mark V is a complex amp with a lot of stuff to go wrong.
But the Hot Rod deVille is blowed up too and so is is the Ampeg Reverbrocket .... the Marshall is too fragile ........ well, either the Tiny Terror or the Ampeg V-2 I guess.
I just might break out that V-2 tomorrow night ...... but the Terror is so small.
What a quandary .................. :D

I'll use the same speaker in either case .... a 75 watt 10" Eminence that's a really great speaker.

I'm gonna have to fix some of these amps and finish building that guitar ......... :laughings:

No seriously ...... I'm gonna get right on that , I swear!
