Gearslutz is probably the last major internet forum in which I'm not universally hated or banned. :laughings:

You're not trying hard enough. ;)

Go over there and make a statement about some basic piece of gear...and how you think it's as good as some of the more expensive stuff, or that all pro gear is just a lot of hype and myth...
...and then stand back. :D

To some of those guys...it's like a knife through their heart when you talk down their gear.

The banned thing is kind of what I was getting at. Just in case I say something else about someone else's family member in the cave or something and it happens to me here at HR in the next week or two, I'd still like to be able to exchange posts with you guys.

Do you GS members use your same usernames there?

That is how the 6100 club is at the Marshall forum. They buzz and swarm and protect the honor of their coveted 6100 amps. It's funny, but annoying as hell when you're trying to share straight and honest opinions. I remember one of them making a claim that the 6100 could do a JCM800 (no model, specifically) better than a JCM800. It was funny.

I haven't tried at all. I'm not registered there. Gear snobs are the last mofos I wanna interact with. I couldn't care less about gear. I'm pretty sure I could have them shitting all over themselves if I wanted to though. :D

I think the 6100 is a good amp. Not JCM800 good, but good. There's no way it touches the classic Marshalls. The problem with the Marshall forum is that those guys only rave about the amps they personally own, or the one amp they've played. Buncha dolts over there.

Everybody .....

Check THIS post out.
Read it from post number 9 and then look at the attached photo in post 12 this is something else.

So....if I'm reading it right....is that a guitar cab made out of a drum shell?

This reminds of that guy a while back that wanted to put small mics in the tips of his drumsticks so he wouldn't have to mic his kit.

I don't think it will sell.

How do you stack an amp head on top of a round drum shell cab? :D

I think it's an interesting idea for recording. I mean, that is of course if you want the totally isolated direct sound of one speaker with basically no kind of enclosure around it. Or you could just pull a speaker and set it on the ground and drop a mic on it. I'm personally of the opinion that speakers have been housed in an unchanged box design for decades for a reason. Millions of songs have been recorded very successfuly by miking a speaker in a cab. The cab shape, material, and the air inside of it has an important role in overall tone. I dunno, it's a neat idea and cool outside-the-box thinking, but I'm not scrapping my cabs for one of these things.

Shaping the tone via open or restricted rear air flow is cool.

I remember filling my SVT V810 and V4 bass cabinets with insulation with a noticeable difference in tone.

I'd like to hear some good sound clips of one of these things A/B'd with an actual cab. The youtube vids don't get it done.

I can tell where this is going on the youtube vids sound wise but yeah true I would like to here some good A/B clips on sound cloud or what have you.

Back in the 80's Nigel Tufnel invented an amp capo because he didn't want to compromise the integrity of a guitar or learn a bunch of chords. This seems similar. :D

That's easy. You just cut a big tom in half, stack the two pieces parallel to each other about 12" apart, add straight sides, then build an amplifier into it. WAY easier than buying a production model amplifier. :)

What if I just take 4 speakers, put them in a square box, and set the amp head on top? Will that work?
