No, get it right before trying to fix it in the mix.

Anyway JDOD, It is a little boomy and boxy. It's not really so bad until the leads come in, and then you can really tell how dark and murky the rhythm tone actually is.
I'm gonna change that lead too, don't really like that time anymore and I've gone off the idea of double tracking the lead.

I'm starting to think the rhythm guitar sounded better single tracked but panned a little less in up a little louder. I'll definitely only be single tracking during the solos.

That's quite a cool looking strat. Stick a humbucker in the bridge and use it!

Haha, no way! A humbucker in a Strat? Pointless. I have Gibsons with humbuckers. My Lesbian Paula murders this Strat in every way imaginable.

I like the color

Me too. The red is nice in person. It's kind of a candy red. The paint and body are actually in really good shape for never being in a case and spending time in the trunk of a car. I don't like the maple neck. Rosewood looks better to me.

I prefer the feel of rosewood or ebony too. Dunno what it is but maple feels so hard and cold under the fingers.

I'm just so used to Fender scale length that I really don't want to change!

They all feel the same to me. I just like the looks of rosewood and ebony better.

I prefer the Gibson scale length. That's not that important to me though. There's something about the neck on this Strat that feels flatter to me than my Gibson necks. I think the radius is the same, maybe? I don't know because radius doesn't matter either, but it just feels flatter on the fretboard, and I'm not crazy about that.

That's odd, maybe it's something to do with a size of the frets or something. I seem to pick up on slight variations in thickness, radius and fret size and stuff quite a lot which is why I'm a bit of a fussy twat about it.

Well I just don't know. This is a very early, like first run of the series, 91 Mexican Strat. Online specs say it's a 9.5 radius, but it sure doesn't seem like it to me. Maybe it's the sharp edge where the profile meets the fretboard. Maybe that makes it seem flatter than it is? I don't know, it's just crappier than a Les Paul neck for sure.

Might be cos I have quite long slender fingers. Also string bending vibrato and stuff like that, much more relaxed with the longer scale. Saying that, i've only had one short scale guitar for any length of time and 4 25.5" guitars.

I'm gonna try some Hendrix tone today. Strat, Plexi, why not? Lol. This should be good for a laugh. I've never played one single Hendrix riff in my entire life.

This needs tones. Post em up!

Remember to stack your plexis

Listening to this one Hendrix song I'm willing to try and sort of learn....sounds like he likes the neck pickup? Is that his thing?

For his more chilled stuff. I've always played purple haze and voodoo chile on the bridge.

Purple haze is easy, mate. D major scale played at the 7th fret so it's almost a basic pentatonic shape.

String tension should be tighter, gauge-for-gauge, on a longer scale length. This ought to make it slightly more difficult to bend. My Jag has a 24" scale and the strings are noticeably more rubbery on a 10 gauge set.

Yeah, should be. Maybe it's the extra resistance I prefer. Actually it's probably cos I just mostly played 25.5" guitars.

No no no, I don't know what "voodoo chile" is. Is that like a hot sauce or something? Lol. I aint touching "purple haze" either. Yuck. I'm gonna fuck up "Fire". It's the only song of his that I know of that's tolerable to me.

:laughings:

I like your strat's color man, & I prefer a maple neck on one myself...but, I also think a white pickguard & p'ups would look better...that's just me though...

I know it probably goes against everything of your entire existence, but your strat can cop some nice tones there Greg, you've just gotta give it a chance & play around with it some dude...

Here's my Squier cheapie:

My ex-girlfriend bought this thing for me last year for about $75...It still had the plastic wrap shit on the pickguard, & is actually not terrible, especially since it's so cheap...

And here's my MIM, the first guitar I bought when I got back into playing (and the recording bug bit me) a few years ago:

He probably used a flying V for that!
I kinda doubt it ..... I don't know for sure because I don't get into the minutiae of players I like but Fire was on his first album and I don't remember seeing pics of him with a 'V' that early.

Greg ..... that's gonna be some great drumbing to hear you do ..... it's fast and not quite what you usually do.
But it should really be right up your alley. The singing ..... I'm interested in how you handle that .......

Man, I'm really look forward to hearing this ......

Hey, I aint doing the whole song! Lol. Just some Strat + Plexi solo tone first. Maybe if it's not a total disaster I might give it a shot, but I don't know. I'm sure I could drum it, bass it to death, maybe do a hatchet job at best on the guitar, but singing it would be silly. :D
