Yeah, way better. I like just about everything here more than the first mix. Two thoughts: Since you're in the business of adding presence to things, how about that reed-like instrument over on the left that comes in after the intro piano? Can you add just a bit of distortion to it or something so it's just a taste more noticeable? Also, maybe you overcooked the upper end on the vocals just a little bit. Sounds like the Aphex exciter was on 5 when 4 would have done it. Whatcha think? Or are you sick of tweaks? lol

Cool, thanks for coming back in dobro. I agree that pretty much everything is better second time around. I think there's some validity in the two tweaks you mention, so as sick as I am now of this damn song currently, I might just take a final look at them both.

With the synth you mention, I couldn't quite decide where to draw the line in terms of its presence. Without any processing it was a bit piercing, so I notched out a frequency that was contributing to that and it lost a little character. Maybe some saturation will be the answer.

Re. the vocals, the main difference between mixes 1 and 2 is that I took off a ton of processing gunk and also removed the low pass filter that was killing all the highs. I think most of the EQ-ing that's left is subtractive, but I'll take a look at whether there's anything in the saturation plug I used (that was reeled back in on mix 2 too) that's overcooking the top end.

Cheers man :thumbs up:

Just a note to let you know that I listened to a couple of the earlier mixes and will revisit tonight - I really like the song :-)

Hey man.
I listened to this a few days ago and really enjoyed it, but I got sidetracked mid reply.
I didn't like how the drums were dull at the start of the original version, but that seems to have been addressed in the later mix.

I really like the general feel of it. I can't help but feel that the electric lead guitar and vocals are a touch thin - Maybe rolled off too much?
Something I'm often guilty of.

The 3:36 gap sounds a little unnatural to me. I think the first beat after the gap is every so slightly late.
Tap the tempo on the table throughout the gap to see what I mean.
Maybe it needs to be punctuated with a cymbal or something too?

Just a few thoughts.
Overall I really like the feel of this though. It's kinda sparse in vocal, but it keeps your attention in that moby kind of way.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Chuck!! Nice to hear from you man - I thought we'd lost you. Thanks a lot for checking it out and glad you like it - yeah, new mix is better than the earlier ones, so hopefully you'll hear some improvement if you get chance to listen again :)

Ace, thanks a lot for your thoughts Steen and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, the ratio of vocal to instrumental parts is kinda loaded heavy to the latter, but I always liked that mentality of the vocals being just one part of the song as opposed to the main focus. I think it pushes you to keep the arrangement interesting and I have enough trouble writing/recording/mixing the amount of vocals as is... ;)

I changed things around on intro drums on the second mix based on some helpful feedback from rami and a lot of knob twiddling that I can't really remember the detail of - so it's good that there's some improvement there.

It's possible too that I rolled off too much on the vocals and guitar with the high pass filter on the update. I had a lot of lower-mid mud going on and so I was trying to carve some space for the kick and bass. It's all a learning curve...

I'll try seeing if the gap's a little off time that you mention too. I want to keep it as a false ending, but if the gap just needs a wee nudge to get back 'on beat' then I can tweak that easily enough.

Helpful feedback, thanks a lot
