In 90 we were selling tickets to a show at Gazzaris on the sunset. The people at the door saw this and wouldnt honor the tickets for the people that just got them from us. When we said its our tickets to our show, they wouldnt let us play then. I dont know, maybe it was because we were selling tickets outside Gazzaris, or some band members said it was political. Another band playing that night must of payed off someone to get the prime slot. Its was 1000 bucks. Another band told us this particular band also sabatoged there equipment at another show. It all sounds good in theory, but Dave, ya got to actually experience it for yourself. Doesnt a band work hard enough on their music. Why should they sell there tickets also at a prime club? It sucks the big one. We all had full time jobs. Livin in LA sucks. Work 8-10 hours a day. Practice with your band 2 hours. Fight traffic a minimum of 4 hours and I was going to school for 4 hours. You do the math. Oh how about spending time with the girl friend? Its a total burnout. Being in a band is hard work. The music industry has made it a shit job that doesnt even pay for the guitar strings. The long run? A million dollar record deal nets the band after all the fingers and uncle sam gets his piece of the pie about $7000 dollars.
I love recording in my home studio. I can burn CD's for about 25 cents a piece and give em away. It would just be nice to play a few shows a year and sell a few CD's to at least pay for some more guitars and recording gear.
