Thanks for the suggestion Alan. Not sure how that instrument would apply to my application.. Cool tool tho.

You can measure the inside distance & outside distance, which is the normal use, but you can also measure depth using the stem, right hand side of the picture. What you do is rest the bottom edge of the calliper, where the 2 screws are right hand side of pic, on the top of what you want to measure, and when you extend the stem to the bottom the scale reads the height.

I bought my vernier in the early 70's when I started my apprenticeship as a fitter/1st class machinist, still have it and still use it, great tool to have around for measuring parts.

OK..yea I can see that working for the reel table height. But, don't know if the edge (that overhangs the Battery) in that image, would be enough to reach the top of the Tension roller, after being stopped, by that kidney shaped plate. Guess I could use my tri-square blade, to lay across the top of the roller. Thereby extending the surface measurement, out to where I would need it. Ya think that's what the Tascam techs do?:D

Now if I could only figure out, how to check those rollers azimuth, without that Gage block!:spank:

Could you measure to the kidney plate and then from the kidney plat to the roller and add the measurements together?

Alan.

The barrel shaped PR was introduced during the ATR-60 runs.It was supposed to help "self center" the tape and make the fine tape path adjustment easier-but it just made it worse when people started buying the barrel PR for their MS-16.Use the MS-16 manual for the MS-16.

Thanks wkrbee. Interesting...and I assume, use the ATR manual for the ATR? Since, The recorder in subject here, is the ATR60. No harm trying the adjustment procedure. about the tension spring mount, You think? Even tho, it's not part of the ATR60 manual?
