Has anyone opend up a tascam 32, i'm having problems getting the front panels off. I dont want to force them and break anything underneath. I'm not really a rookie and have worked on alot of stuff, just never opened one of these babies up yet.

the problem is that the tape lifters are worn and the tape guides on the outside of the heads are worn so bad that they are tearing up the tape.

on the outside guides i think i can loosen the screws and just give them a half turn to get to a smooth section. but the tape lifter are really bad and need replaced.

Has anyone opened up one of these or changed the tape lifters and maybe can give me a clue what to do,

thanks in advance for any help

Well i thought i might introduce myself as i have been very quiet since joining this forum.

I have been recording on analog since the 70's and have been writing songs since the late 50's. As you have probably figured out by now I am old........
52 to be exact. But I'm not your typical 52 year old man. I love all kinds of music from orchastra to staind, linkin park, disturbed and everything in between. I have been playing since kindergarden (a year of piano, for which my teacher then told my parents to get this boy a guitar) now mind you the beatles didnt come out until i was in the 4th grade, so music was a little bit different in those days. In the first grade i started playing guitar, so i've been playing for quite awhile now. In all the local bands i've been in the last 15 or so years, i've been playing bass.

so i play piano, guitar and bass and sing and now have bought a mandolin to add to the collection. What a wierd instrument! but it does have a unique sound.

I have a tascam 388 and a tascam 32 for mixdown. I have alot of other gear too.

Like i said i've been recording for a long time and in the short time i've been on this forum i have really learned alot of new stuff. thanks to all of you.

well thats enough info for now
thanks for all the help and knowledge

Yes,...

Start by removing the screws on the front panel that are in obvious view. Follow by removing the head-cover assembly. Then, remove the tension rollers and pinchwheel, by unscrewing the caps on each roller. Pay attention to two tiny washers that should be on each roller, (one washer on either side of each roller). Follow by removing the Pitch knob, and then unscrewing the collar from the Pitch control pot, by using some fine-tipped needle nose pliers.

Remove the front panel by swinging it out from the bottom first, and disconnect the control cable as you go. The front panel hooks very slightly under the top "bonnet", so the top of the front panel will release last,... or you may opt to remove the top "bonnet" itself, for easier access.

thanks very much "reel person" i have about everything off but the pitch control.

Now, how hard is it to get the tape lifters off? hehe
Do i go at it from the front or back? from what i see now, before its open,
it looks like i need to get the back off too.

thanks again for your help.
