I am looking to sync a tascam TSR-8 to the computer so the TSR-8 is chasing the computer. Would a Tascam ATS500 allow me to do this?

I am looking to do the following and wondering if it is possible:

1) record seven tracks of music on the TSR-8, and SMPTE code from computer on track 8
2) then transfer the 7 tracks recorded on the TSR-8 to computer (into Delta 1010)
3) then record over the 7 tracks on the TSR-8 but still in time with the computer timecode
4) then play the 7 newly recorded tracks from the TSR-8 and the 7 tracks transfered from the TSR-8 to the computer in step 2 simultaneously without them losing sync?

sorry if my description is a bit confusing!

cheers, Ian

Yes, assuming your computer reads smpte. And you can tweak the timing of the tracks after they've been transferred to computer. You cant monitor the first 7 tracks from the computer while you record the second 7 tracks on the TSR?

so, when you say adjust the timing - i assume you mean aligning the start times of the 2nd batch of 7 tracks with the 1st batch. If this is done, will they all definitely be in sync all the way through?

also could you tell me the difference between the ATS-500, ES-50 and MTS-1000? which would be the cheapest and best solution in order to achieve what i described in the first post?

thanks! Ian

also, does anybody know about the cables needed? cheers
