Where do they find the time from making hit records to make all those posts.![]()

You all need to trust your ears, especially if they are trained. If not, what ever you do will not sound great anyway no matter what you read or who you listen to. Understand your rooms may not be suitable for recording. Know that your skills may not be as good as others in mic placement and engineering. You may not even have your gear hooked up properly. Know that most of you are Home Recorders having fun, and trying to learn about this thing called recording.
Learn how to get the most of what you have, rather than simply thinking one mic is better than another because you can't get a good sound from it. No mic can do everything. You will always need a locker to go to. Any mic that works can be considered a good mic, no matter what it costs... No disrespect meant....![]()

You know Alan I would dare say that the people who don't know how to hook stuff up are not the ones who are giving their opinion about your mics. I'm pretty sure I have a handle on how to hook stuff up and I'm sure they doOriginally Posted by alanhyatt

I'm pretty sure I have a handle on how to hook stuff up and I'm sure they doThe ones who don't know how to hook stuff up usually don't render opinions but instead ask questions. I only speak about my experience with 2 of your products that I own. I only own your C1 and your B1. I can't speak about your other products since I have not used nor heard them. It doesn't insult me that you're taking the stance you are. That is the same stance that snake oil salesmen take when people question it's healing properties. They always find something to blame other than themselves or the oil.
Alan the C1 is an OK mic it's not a great mic. Many, many people don't like the harsh highend. When you visit other boards you'll find the same things being said in general about it. It still has uses that's why I haven't Ebayed mine but it does not compare to many of the $3000 mics and more that I own. I've run blind tests and it's never picked as anyones favorite sound. I have heard you have better mics and someday when I'm not busy I'm hoping to audition some.
Can you name any "multimillion" dollar a year engineers that use your C1 for a lead instrument or vox on any charting tune??
Now that's a true statement!!
Right on... and by the way, I use to own other SP mics and you can throw the B1, B3, and C3 in with the C1.krs said:I think this should be made a sticky. Also the guy who said if you can't hear an appreciable difference, buy new monitoring - has it spot on.
Studio projects is just another Chinese mic with great marketing. And a fizzly sizzly top end. (BTW I too only know the B1 and C1. Can't speak for the C3 T3 et al).

For the most part, I agree with what he's saying ... but in a way it seemed like he was dissing a lot of people's abilities. And at the same time dissing the guys like myself who are trying to help people out by giving our opinions on stuff.
... especially when you consider that these same "million post" guys are very adamant about telling the newbs exactly the same kind of thing ; that skills and first-hand experience/trial with recording gear is more important than what guys like myself or Harvey or Bluebear or whomever say or think. And that there is no "better" or "best," etc.
crazydoc said:Sorry, but I think that's true, unless recording is very different than every other skilled trade or profession in life. A skillful person can make a purse out of a sow's ear most every time, but the unskilled will fuck up a piece of silk every time. I myself have been trained in several different areas where skill in performing the work is the the most important aspect of being able to do it, and where all the high end equipment in the world, although helping to reach higher levels of outcomes, won't help at all if you don't have the experience to use it.
In my memory, Harvey has never espoused the necessity of using high end gear - that's what has made him the single most valuable poster on these boards - he tells us how to do it with the lower end but adequate gear, and is all about acquiring skills, not gear.
Sure, it's nice to hear about the great gear, and the tricks of the trade, but a lot of folks get the idea from some posters here that they can't do good or even adequate work without the best of equipment, and that's simply not true.
Alan, alanhyatt said:Well Chessrock, I am not trying to be political here. You and I never did see eye to eye anyway, but we are entitled to our points of view. For the record, I was not intending to diss any of the guys who need more experience...merely telling it like it is. Everyone was at that point at some time or another. If I am wrong, then certainly my apologies go out to them if they took it that way, but the reality is, the majority are here to learn. There are many more things they should learn about other than what mic is as good as another or not. Mics are mics, and in the hands of an experienced user, they are all good.
Secondly, Harvey and Bear do not fall into this category as they both have years of experience with proven results. On the other hand, I do not consider you part of that equation. Sorry if you are insulted, but when you put yourself on the same list as them, I have to draw the line. You are no Harvey Gerst. Harvey is da man in my book. He commands respect based on his knowledge.
As for my people skills...I tell it like it is. It seems the only people I offend are the same people I offend all the time. It seems to me you have often offended many people with your replies.
Yet, this seems to be the saga of HR as a result of a few posters here ensuring their opinions are heard. Shame really, but I guess this is just the way people are, and perhaps why the great ones have disappeared from this site. Then when one of the greats posts, they are run off with insults by the the very same posters who seem to want their opinions be heard. Go figure....
Harvey Gerst I'll try to contribute when (and where) I can said:Harvey,
At the risk of being called a Brown Noser my previous post was not aimed at your goodself. It is just that I get so fed up of all the in-fighting that goes on. If it ever achieved something worthwhile it would not be in vain, but it never does.
Lets all get on with life!!!
