speakers- help

i am just about to buy an audio pc, been saving for ages and i have a problem i need solving. its regards speakers

the pc includes everything i need except monitors, my budget couldnt include a decent pair. my headpnones will do untill i can save enough cash

im buying a omnistudio and this has 1/4 connectors for the monitors and my question is.....

is there any way to connect normal hifi speakers to my setup (i have a decent spare pair). i dont want to go through my amplifier and was wondering if there was a product that enables you to do this (a sort of speaker pre amp?) or any other way to hook the spekers up

any help would be great as this would keep my music loud for the months it will take to save up for some powered monitors

can i just put 1/4 connectors on the end of the speaker wires and plug them streight into the omnistudio, or do the speakers need their own power from the mains (will the omnistudio be able to power them)

Unless they are active speakers (with their own power amp built-in), then you will definitely need a power amp to drive them.

The output of your soundcard would go to the input of your power amp.......

yes, like i said... i want to connect my hifi speakers, not active (powered) monitors because i cant aford them yet.

and i dont want to use my amplifier (which is a power amp)

is there anywhere you can buy a speaker power amp and how much would one cost

Well you could hook the omni to any hi fi amp aux input by using 1/4" to RCA cables. I A/B my mixes that way to check if they translate from my monitors.

Ultimately you want to get some monitors though.

thanks thats a good idea but i dont want to go through my amplifier for now

there must be a product out there that solely powers a pair of normal hifi speakers so that they can be connected to the computer, wheather it is called a speaker power amp or not i dont know. it shouldnt be expensive i would think.

does anyone know of such a product?

Any hi-fi stereo amplifier will do what you want. The range from about twenty dollars to many thousands. You get what you pay for.
