I've just bought a Soundcraft 760 2" 16 track machine cheap, and all is cool and it sounds lovely but for one big niggle.....
When putting it into play, you have to initially give the reel a helping push with your hand after pressing play or it won't go! After that it's fine!
I looked in the manual and did the spring tension adjustments with a spring scale, but still no joy.
Any experts out there with any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

It might be a weak reel motor or a weak power supply feeding the motor.

Did it come with the service manual?

Is there a motor torque adjustment pot somewhere?

Are you handy at disassembling a reel motor and cleaning out the gunk and junk that might be built up in there?

Can you take out the bearings on the motors armature, clean them, re-pack them with the correct grease and re-assemble the motor?

These are just possibilities and doing one or more of them might solve your problem.

If you feel uncomfortable doing these procedures, find a technician who makes house calls and let him have a look.

Cheers! :)

Thanks mate, it does sound a bit much for me actually!!
I have the manual and have just had the electronics serviced and up to spec, had to replace a few capacitors apparently, but the problem remains.
Now all I gotta do is find a technician around here!
Thanks again.
