the radio shack mics that i have seen have all had 1/4" plugs or mini plugs on the supplied cables. doesnt this make them different?

the sennheiser mic is an excellent example of 2nd tier. the r/s boundary and pzm mics have 1/4" plugs. what about the sennheiser? i dont know.

ok maybe r/s had one decent set of speakers in the 70's!

i never said that everything radio shack sells is crap. i said a lot of companies make crap for them...

when i was a sprout we had a number of catalogs to peruse. olsen, lafayette, heathkit, r/s, etc. i had all the catalogs but all we had in town was r/s. i bought a lot of crap there because it was convenient.

i still go there! i have some linoleum speakers! have you ever tried the little headphones with titanium drivers? fantastic! i got my temp and humidity gauge there! i got rca wireless headphones for 20$!

i only buy stuff from them when its on sale 40 - 60% off!

it seems you misunderstood me right away.

You guys with all this Radio Shack crap have taken all of the fun out of this thread......It was much funnier just giving Rapper a hard time.....

Wow....i would'nt expectin' all these replys. The board would'nt let me login because it said too many users, & every since then i forgot about this post.

My pc:

Audiophile 2496
DJ Stereo Disc Mixer
40 gig Wd 7200
Compaq Preario 192 mb ram
Cool Edit 2.0 & more....

Ok, now gettin' back to the microphone. My $14.99 mic sound more clear then my sm57 mic. The vocals sound all muddy and have a windy sound. I tried to put the mic away from my mouth but it still sound muddy even with a pop filter. But when i rap on my $14.99 mic it sound more clear and don't have dat wind sound when you talk into it.

Now i have a deep voice and don't know if sm57 is the right mic because it's not soundin' the way i thought it was. The eq effects on the sm57 is not smoother than on my $14.99 mic.

But it's still no excuse why my $14.99 mic sound better then my sm57. Um not about to waste my money on a mic when i have something dat sound better to me and i don' t care how many studios use it. Some people just need to use different mic's.

I don't know why it sounds better but it do.

Could somebody tell me what eq effects they use on their sm57 to shape up their vocals??? Maybe um not puttin' the right effects for this mic or something.

Thx.....

Here's a question: what are you plugging the mic into? A bad mic preamp will make anything sound bad.

And BTW, I'm amazed you weren't more pissed off at us after 3 pages of ridicule. Very impressive--you obviously actually want to learn stuff, which is more than can be said of a lot of people here.

I did the lead vocal for my song "Your Life Story" with a '57.... I totally disagree with this young fellow, I think the vocals sound great for the mic it is.....

But, If I had any sort of say, I would tell you that you need to go out and buy a AT4033

At the risk of boring all my fellow collegues here, who have heard this song a zillion times, here is a link, and you can hear how decent a 57 can sound on lead vocals...

I think it's your ears, or the rest of your set up, OR something wrong with the 57 you have (highly doubtful)...

...Buttttt thats just MY opinion.

Sounds good but what effects did you use?????

Here's a quick sample of a vocal i did with my $14.99 mic.

Right hand click & save target as.

hmmm, that Radio Shack mixer looks a bit suspect. There is a good reason why R/S stuff gets dogged on alot, your best bet would be to try to get a 1/2 decent mic pre as opposed to getting a new mic.

How are you connecting the SM57 to your mixer? It says it accepts a 1/4" plug - nothing about an XLR connector. I assume this is meant for a high impedence mic, which the 57 is not, and this will not only give you low gain, but will make it sound like shit also frequency-wise.

The cheapest thing to do is buy an in-line impedence-matching transformer from RS for about $10-$15.

I'll try this. I do have a low gain, and a fucked up frequency.

jesus, why did i ever reply in this thread...

1. take sm57 back to store

2. get your GED

3. write some lyrics that don't contain "nigga" over and over...

1) The $14.99 mic sounds OK, but the 57 will sound better if he gets the inputs squared away. Keep the 57.

2) I think rapper already has more than a GED.

3) You write your lyrics, he'll write his - that's what songwriting is about.

rapper-
How _are_ you connecting the 57 to your mixer - I thought it just came with an XLR socket?

I brought a mic cable and i hooked the end of it (Gold plug) into the hole where it says "MIC". If you see the picture of the mixer it's the first hole. The mixer comes with a mic and a headphone hole built into it. The holes is fitted well for mic cables and pro microphones.

How do you hook the cable to the mic? Doesn't the mic have a 3 prong connector on the end?

If it's a cable with an XLR plug on one end for the mic, and a 1/4" plug on the other for the mixer, that's probably the whole problem right there. You need the matching transformer to plug into the mic (lo-Z, balanced) with a 1/4" socket (hi-Z, unbalanced) on the other end. Then you can just use a guitar cord to run from the transformer to the mixer.

I'm sorry, but this is one of the most ignorant things I have ever seen posted. I hope this was at least somewhat tongue-in-cheek. Anybody who makes the slightest effort to familiarize him- or herself with the depth of hip-hop will find that the above stereotypes aren't warranted.

dont you guys see how beautifully and seamlessly the radio shack discussion fits this thread?

the dj mixer this dude has only accepts 1/4" plugs. as i pointed out RADIO SHACK MICS ONLY COME WITH 1/4" PLUGS!!!!

rapper you shoulda got a cheap crap radio shack mic to go with your cheap crap mixer!!!!!

i am going to go out on a limb here and recommend that you get a condenser microphone. and get a gemini dj mixer.

some cheap crap is a lot better than other cheap crap!
