Nifty site...I really like the low down on the SE mic.

So like a couple of you have mentioned building bass traps and broadband absorbers. So where did you purchase OC 703 or 705 and or JM 817? I looked into OC 703 many years ago. That stuff was like majorly expensive!

Just curious where you obtained it from?

That is a great link, by the way!!
I learned a ton and have more to digest.

External preamp with the AW16G?

Hi Bob
Nice looking studio. I have another reason for my post though as I would like to get your opinion on something. I am reasonably new to recording although I am a long time musician. I have some similar equpment to you, including the AW16G. I am right now looking for a new preamp. I have an ART TPS which I picked up shortly after buying the 16G, and I would like to upgrade. I am wondering how much difference (i.e. improvement) are you noticing with the external preamp running into the 16G. I guess what I am pondering is the wisdom of buying a quality preamp and then running the signal into the preamps of the 16G. I am not knocking the preamps of the 16G, I am just wondering if one is watering down the gains made in purchasing a higher quality preamp by running them through a presumably lower quality preamp on the Yamaha? Have you found significant improvements in sound? Further info.... I recently purchased some decent quality mics, and that is why I am looking to upgrade the pre. How do you like the TrakMaster, as I can get a pretty good deal on one of those? Thanks. Brian.

Thanks for your kind words!
Running the MPA into the AW16G makes a big difference as per my ears.
I love the Gold MPA as it is very variable. Running about $399?
I like the Trakmaster Pro too and I believe they are selling new at $299 each.
You might also consider some of the PreSonus units.
A lot of it depends on how much you want to spend and what type of sound you are looking for. Your microphones may have an impact on your pre choices as well.
There are so many things out there to choose from

PS-touch base with the Yamaha techs via the Yamaha USA website. They are very generous with their time and info but sometimes a day or 2 before you get a reply.
