For reference my RMGI 911 is an earlier lot, 0911B021079 and does not shed. It looks like the early stuff was fine. The bad batch came later and from what I hear has been corrected. You can contact RMGI and they will replace what you have with a new one.

Exactly the same batch as my SM911! I've not used it on my E16 yet though!
I'll just let it go into play straight away & see if there is shedding before rewinding it ?
Will report back in a while!

What I did to test some of mine was set an auto-punch in for about a minute, so that it records until the end of the selected area, and then rewinds. I ran it 7 times to simulate a bunch of overdubs and checked the amount of residue on the heads.

I’m not sure about baking RMGI since it’s not classic sticky shed. IMO RMGI didn’t tell us everything and I never accepted the official width difference explanation. It may have been a mixture and/or curing issue. The reason I didn’t think the difference in tape width between Quantegy and RMGI explained all the reports of shedding was because they were replacing bad tape with new tape that was the same width.
Sticky shed in the 90’s was a huge reason people on the fence jumped to digital in the first place. When we were pulling out tape after tape that seemed ruined it scared a lot of people into exploring other options. I’m sure RMGI didn’t want to have their product associated with the dreaded sticky shed fiasco, so we my never know.

that's because it doesn't. My understanding is that there was one bad batch that shedded bad due to a legitimate problem (this is the batch that was replaced); and that in addition all of the batches shed a little bit on worn machines due to the size problem. The latter isn't real shedding, its an edge thing. But I do fear that this tape might stretch a bit more than quantegy. I don't have any direct proof yet of this but it seems a bit flimsier.

My SM911 (0911 B038363 34130) hasn't had any problems. I've ran it quite a few times since I bought it a little while ago.

Right, I'm recording on all channels for 2 minutes x 7 takes at the moment on the E-16.
Just cleaned the guides & tape lifters afterwards & virtually nothing worth speaking about, also cleaned the heads & not even a bit of oxide / dust.
Looking with a magnifing glass there doesn't seem to be much wear anyway from tape on the tape guides & lifters on this machine?
So no sign of shedding at all it appears.
