Recording Levels - What's Right?

Thanks for all the feedback. Good to know. So my main problem is that I have a good recording of a song that peaks in the main mix at about +0db. But it is really quiet when I burn it to disk and play it on a stereo. What steps do I take to increase volume on the recorded disc?

If this is the whole EQing thing, I am totally lost because when I have been playing around with the EQ in the Cubase I hear no change on the song's volume level. Do I have to do it externally from the sequencer or what?

I swear, it's downright eerie almost to the point of conspiritorial how there always seem to be three or four different people asking the identical question within hours of each other.

Bimach, go to the "Mixing/Mastering" forum and check out three of the top threads in that forum as of this writing: two of them about using compression and the third about a mastering CD. These all have lots of stuff directly addressing your "main problem".

HTH,

G.
