when i talked ot the guy at a design he said that all ef86 tubes are microphonic. when i talked to one of the vintage mic guys i know he said that the ef86 tube was a microphonic design. there is no way to isolate the vibrations when there in the air. i tried putting it on foam rubber but the vibrations from being in the same room wiht the thing made it unusable.
if you're one of the big guys you have two rooms which is why the big guys like it and they proably never turn the speakers up loud and they have big rooms where this hting is far away, but for me wiht a home studio it is unusable.
what gets me is that the manufacturer knows about this and didn't put a warning on the unit. there are warnings on all sorts of things. there are warnings on a computer mouse when you buy one, but there is no warning on this that you can't use it in the same room when you're playing.
thats just wrong to me. it may be hte best sounding preamp ever built but if you can't use it then its worthless isn't it
