I suppose use the mix that I posted as my final. If you can not rape me on the low end issue that would be helpful. I'm aware it was a bit much but I have some things going on with my computers and my setup making it not possible to tweak the mix anymore....

If you could just judge it like I had pulled about 3db out of 85hz with a .3 Q. :D

so is the deadline tonite at midnight, or are all the mixes up already?

Ha.. if it's midnight I'll run home after work at fix the drums real quick...
Man the snare is bad... :o

Edit "fixed" it so here's the new link...

I'd hoped to do the contest without seeing the submission names, but two of the files so far aren't mp3s, and I can't open them, so I guess that's out.
I"ll look up the names once I've done some reviewing, or if you know yours isn't an mp3 you may as well go ahead and repost it somewhere.

just post a link, if everyones ok with that. The only thing is I'll know which mix is yours heheheh...

BUMP!!!!

What's up with the PMC lately? It's like no one cares about this one. lol. And when will we know some results? I'm anxious, damnit!

:D

it seems that people are loosing interest towards the end of the contest...maybe they need to be a little shorter....

The interest in them seems to have died down, a lot. I haven't really had a chance to take the last few, including this one, seriously. I'm just too damn tired all the time. :-/

I do them, when I like the song.
It just happens to be that Finster's are the only ones I've liked... :)
Plus with dial-up, I only want to take the time to DL the ones I really like.

I still play around with PMC 3 and 4 at times
Trying new things with my mixing...
I'd hate to see these go by the wayside as they've helped me a lot.

I said that on page two or three of this thread ;)

It seems like there is a lot of time between each. Also, there is no reason that more than one can't be going on at the same time as long as there is avalable server space somewhere.

On a side note, would anyone be interested in more of a contest version with a small cash prize? I am in the beginning stages of an album for a band right now. The band thinks it would be fun to post one song to see what everyone comes up with. This one would have no rules, just end results. Add midi, replace drums, whatever. We want to offer some sort of actual prize since these tracks are going on an album which means the winners mix may get used, may not, or maybe we will just take some ideas form it for our own version of that song. Either way, the winner would get some sort of prize and would also get credited on the album if their version was either used, or if we took enough influence from it to change our own mix in a certain direction due to it.

What do you guys think?

The only rule I would have is that by uploading a mix than the uploader is releasing that material to us to do with as we please. Also, only the winners material would have the possibility of being released as is and we would pay expenses to have them ship us a CD with the song in an audio format as opposed to mp3.

I wouldn't mind the PMC's to be shorter or simultaneous...

I'm really anxious to hear some feedback about mine and what I need to improve on, as I've never had any professionals critique my mixes before...and I think that's a really neat part of this concept.

As far as other kinds of contests go, hey, the more the merrier IMO. I DO like the idea of a purely mixing contest though, so I hope the PMC's don't die...when you get into adding / replacing material, then it becomes a lot more complex.

that is true. I also like the idea of purely mixing contests. However, it is more than just mixing that makes a great engineer. I for one would love the chance to hear other peoples ideas as well as their skills by giving them carte blanche with a song. Production skills are an extremely important and vital part of becomming a really good engineer.

I put up a thread a few days ago asking if anyone would be interested in doing a mix where the mixer had full permission to do whatever they felt was necessary to make the song sound good. I only had a few replies. I think it would bring out some of the other aspects of engineering. This tune I was planning to use has some problems, typical of home recording. I was able to rescue the tracks and make a pretty good sounding mix. I would like to have seen others try and perhaps make a better sounding mix.

I think these mix contests are good. I’m sure most of us here are looking to improve. Sure it’s great to mix someone else’s stuff, but if you don’t find out what someone did to a ‘good’ sounding mix, then we’ll still be feeling around in the dark until we hit on something that works. I know if I was asked, I would share every last detail on what I did. I don’t think we’re always going to get that in these contests. I’m not blaming anyone – it’s their call if they want to share or not.

cool...all the participants could put like $5 into an elected treasurer's paypal account and that could be the prize money...along with a free copy of the CD with the winners credits if their mix is used. id be up for that...
