NL. Rethink that comment of accentuating the Jazz. :) vs, the Hip Hop

Hmmmm. Not sure what you mean.

I'm from the old school of Jazz. No electricity. Just a piano, an upright bass, acoustic drums and vocals. Maybe I'm just a bit outta touch with modern jazz :)

I emphasized the bass, piano, and vocals, and pushed everything else back. I'd love to take the hip hop drums out and put in real drums and expand the piano part just a tad.

I know the song still sounds hip-hop due to the drums, but how does it sound overall. I'm still a desperate newbie tryin to learn ya know. :D

I really cant give you more. :) I will key in on what you said.... "I went slightly away from the artists interpretation (which is probably bad)".... The Goal of a mixer is to bring forth what they perceive the artists vision to be. :)

That is all I can tell you.

Of Course replacing the drums and changing the piano would change the song. :)

Just send the whole thing NL's way. I will only be hosting Final entries.

ok the file is up

NL just needs to post the link to get to it, i don't want to step on any toes here.

Ok, regarding the mix direction of this, would you more prefer;

A - modern radio sound, compressed, wide closer-than-close back vocals, overall dry and in your face and dancey and bass heavy.. ie; hip hop?

B - retro smooth, produced reverby 70s/80s sound?

Or another direction?

Hey whatever man my 1st Gold record came off of a song mixed on a Single g3 450 :) In DP 3.1

What is the album? I'd like to check it out!

yo, giles, do you have somewhere I can upload this first mix of mine so you and the others can have a go at it? or does anyone have any space i could upload to for that matter?

You should look at www.fronder.com and set up an account there.
100 MB of space for your mp3s, any bit rate (unlike Soundclick)

Well, I sent producerkids link to him, but since he hasn't posted it, here it is-

Sorry to say NL for some strange reason I cannot talk to your server. I wonder if those failed FTP attempts earlier this week have me on some sort of reject list with your ISP

Hey, guys, sorry I've been busy and haven't been staying consistent with the boards lately. But I'm back and thanks, NL for posting that link for me, I just got your PM.

well I got all the tracks needed. I had a problem getting the BGV Bridge tracks-or should I say I got them but could not import them into DP(Digital Performer for you PC dudes).
Anyway I used SoundApp to convert them, somehow they were funkied up. but all is well.

Now to the fun stuff!! Time to mix!!:)
BTW Bryan, the piano track(& everything else) is awsome!! Nice playin'

Okay, I've got a place I can upload a file now. Here is the first mix so everyone can access it:

Make sure when it is a final you indicate as such so I can upload it to my server

Bump,
hey whats happenin' getting slow here. No one with their attempts?

T

It's a pretty involving song. It took me a couple days of straight mixing to mix it :)

Do it quick and you miss stuff. :)
