This was a fun one to play with. I wasn't too fond of the keys in parts though.

So here's my entry

typically, you would use a multiband compressor to accentuate the high mids and crush down the highs.

Looks like you will have to do what I do. Mix down instrumentals and save the vocals for last and Import........work from there. Im sure you do this already but anyways have ran into this when I run out of cpu power from plugs weighing on my system.
You deserve to get in on this one (#5) :D

ok, here's my first try. Shoot, but don't kill me. =D



the ambience is intentional.

i took some live performances of "nightwish" as reference, cause I love their keyboards in the background.

But the presence is a little bit more decent in the mix.

Hey fin.

Richard is just an old friend that moved to Portland i think 2 years ago to play his music. Wanted to try and make it big down there. Guess if you havnt heard of him he hasnt done very well. He is acoustic gtr only.

BTW everyone, if you have comments on my mix i would appreciate it. I would like to know what people are liking about it and what they arnt. I probably wont bring it back up and change anything on it for this but i am curious to know what an outside ear thinks of my interpretation with the balancing and eq.

It was really fun to do and i will really be looking forward to the next one. I guess the real trick to this is interpreting what the judges will want to here. Oh well, im not really psyched up on winning i just thought it would be fun to share my interpretation and see what others hear.

When someone encode the mixes at 256kbits or 384kbits, does this mean that the guy think he's the best of the best ? or that maybe the mix is so bad that has to encode it in that way to preserve what he thinks is a piece of art ?

i'm curious. =D

Well this is a mix contest and you do need to hear the mix. Wouldn't you want your entery in a high quality, easily judged format?
 
look at the frequency response of my wav file compared to a 256 bit mp3 file.

I think that 256 is reasonable.
 
128K is pretty bad, 256k is pretty big and hard for 56Ks, thats why i found a happy medium at 196k. Why does it matter. The files arnt that much bigger.

I encode everything at 997685475631455967845 Kbps, because I am the greatest artist of all time.

But seriously, I thought 320kbps was the max. Am I obsolete again? Man, I hate that.

Yeah i agree with the 997685475631455967845 Kbps, allthough i ve found that 8997685475631455967845 Kbps is ALOT more "artistic" sounding.

listening on cans, where are the drums?...

seriously, the tracks sound good, but the mix could be balanced out somewhat. BIG guitars and vox.
 
I would like to know what the lyrics are to this song. I'm just curious.
