Sweet Contest #5 will start when this one is judged and complete. :) 39 tracks. 1.27GB of Data uncompressed. :) Geez Now I am excited. LOL

aww damn..i can only do 32 with pt le. Guess ill get in on the fun some other time,,,,

Maybe i can be a judge in #5?

Hey Giles, don't you think 39 tracks is a bit much for your average home recordist? For a start there's gonna be a LOT of people that just don't have that sort processing power, let alone 39 chanels on a desk so we're all handicaped from the start by having to do some digital summing, some all in the box, others still a fair bit to pull out to their 16, 24 or 32 chanel consoles.

I can't think for the life of me any PRO studio that would take on a project if they didn't have the chanels to cover everything.

I done a remix for a band about a year ago that had 35 tracks when I was limited to a 16 chanel board (24 now) and it was just a nightmare. Having to buss everything up in Cubase before sending it to the board.

To me these comps serve a great purpose in giving people a chance to mix styles of music they haven't had a chance to before, while at the same time not making things too much of a nightmare that the task actualy becomes a burden. To me this is like cutting someones leg off and telling them to run.

Anyone?

You dont sound creative to me. :)

When you have a track count limit.... you figure out how to Do the whole project and still make it happen

Quick Example.

I had to mix a Jazz track 2 years ago that was done in PT TDM. Well he had 60 tracks and all I had was PT LE. I had to "FIGURE" out how to get access to all those tracks. and mix the song. And good for me, the artists and the entire band was happier with my mix in the box versus Mr SSL 4000 E and SSL 4000G with PT TDM.

So enter anyway when I put it up. :)

Peace.....

I mixed albums with as many as 50 tracks running a 450Mhz Mac g3. (which was infintessimly slow)

This is a contest to push you guys to the next level in your own work. No such thing as a bit much for the home recordist. we all start somewhere and grow. I think 39 tracks is a fun challenge for the avg home recordist.

You learn what the Freeze track/Mixdown/Bounce to disk function is worth. :) You learn to stretch yourself. That is what this is all about. Stretching and growing and learning. There are some awesome mixers on this forum who just havnt had the opportunity to mix bigger things. And really push themselves.

And Guess what. these tracks are noisy, got mad bleed cuz the guys studio I tracked it in had bad cabling that I didnt realize till I got back to my spot to do the vocal overdubs. The vocals were cut in a hallway during the inter. In some cases yu could here the neighborhood dogs on the tracks (in the background). Seems like home recordist tracks to me. LOL

Anyway we got 17 days till I put her up. So put down the consternation and have a ton of fun. And really I tried to do a simple track. My wife and I struggle at simplicty. there is another song though that only has 4 instruments so I might do that for Mix Contest 37 after Fin does #6 (????) I think that song only has 24 tracks.

One more thing... Lemon. All my mixes since 2000 have been in the box dealing with digital summing and learning how to make it sound better In the box. This song was mixed by me ITB. And oddly enuff, on a 800Mhz Mac G4. SINGLE PROCESSOR. SO I was handicapped with that. I think the fellas can handle it else I wouldnt throw it up. Remember a true champion NEVER GIVES UP!!!!! In spite of what the ODDS look like. :)

mmm... I'm using kristal audio and it only takes 16 tracks... which was perfect for this comp.. here's my mix so far . This isn't an entry... I'd appreciate a little feedback before I do some more on it...

Thanks...

My curiousity is now piqued... looks like I'll be a contestant in #5 instead of a judge!

All the way at the bottom... PMF 4 Final

Okay this will be my final entry, as I'm tired of nitpicking...
Unless of course amybody has any insight
And points out something blatantly wrong...

I'm used to having a max of 6 tracks or so...
So this is really tough for me...

Hope I did ok at least.

Ok, I started off mixing in the box years ago with a Pentium 90Mhz 48Meg system....things just got so easier bringing it all out through the desk. Besides, I like a good moan about something on Wednesdays :D

You know, at first I thought, dammit that's not fair, competing against a pro. However, I started thinking, this "contest" is more of a learning excersise, and what better way to learn than to hear what a pro does starting with the exact same tracks. It outta really show our weakness's.

Can't wait! :D

Hey! I'm going out of town until Sunday and won't be able to check the BBS. (Family Wedding) I'll be a little behind. Would someone email me the link for the final mixes so I have it when I get back?

P.S. I didn't realize what a Paula I am. Maybe I should be mean a little, I might give someone a toothache with all my hunny.

.

The fact that youre even doing a PMC #5 makes the above quote seem a little silly.

But back to the context.

Im game. :)

So all I was thinking when listening was "where are the drums"?
It seemed like mostly kick and cymbals.
Vox were a bit loud for my taste.
Good job on the guitars.
The overall Frequency spectrum of the song was a bit on the dark side.
A good first attempt though! keep it up.

Sorry if Giles missed you, ill try to keep up on that a little more.

Peace.

Ok my second try.

I brought the volume up to about where other people are.

I'm thinking this will be my official entry also, so Giles if you could put it on your server that would be awesome. I only have enough room for 2 songs usually on my webpage..

If you have a chance let me know what you think.

Thanks..

Dave

How do I get the snare up without the hats?
I hope you don't mind that I tweaked one guit to sound like a buzzsaw as in Pumpkin's Machina album...
