This question is for Nik D,

Did you trigger the drums with other drum samples? I was curious because I lined your mix up with the original tracks and there are several instances where there is a tom hit in the original, and it's a snare hit on yours. Since the toms bled into the snare mic (at practically the same volume as the snare lol), I'm guessing it just triggered the tom hit as a snare snare hit... (?) Also, if you did trigger them, did you replace the drums entirely or mix them together? I think I still hear a faint sound of the original crash cymbals (bleed from the snare mic?)...

BTW, I haven't read all 10 pages of these replies, so I appologize if this have already been answered! ;)

I think I like your mix the best out of the few that I've listened too.... Great job!

Yep, I triggered samples with drumagog. I completely replaced the toms with my own, and I mixed in a snare sample with the origional snare. I mixed it because I lost too much of the hats with it %100 replaced, also I would have missed out on the grace notes. I also suppose that there's a good chance of a tom hit triggering a snare hit, the bleed was pretty heavy, although I trimmed out all the sound from the tom tracks because the bleed was as loud as the tom hits and made it impossible to trigger the samples accuratley. I also kept the overheads in there too, didn't mess with those apart with a lilttle EQ I think. Thanks for the compliments!

Yeah, Nik. I never did get a chance to listen to a lot of these because I've been away. I have to say the sound of your mix is one of the best in my opinion. It's very full, the voice is very up-front and rather dry (maybe a little too much, for my taste), the guitar sits nicely in the right edit - left side.

Whoa. SS - that was some crazy stuff. Van Halen meets Finster. I'm always one for changing chords for cover songs and all, but I'm not quite sure they fit. However, the synth and guitar stuff is certainly different and is a change from the others (along with MixMister). Good luck dude.

Whew!

hahah...now that's a Christian rock group i could listen to!
Praise be to the god of ROCK AND ROLL!!!!!! {insert head banging here}

but yeah, some of the chords didn't seem to fit...maybe we're just listening to the original too much

Yeah, The vocal doesn't fit exactly with the chords in that rocking arrangment. I thought it was a good effort to do something different.

I structured the new progression around the original vocal track. It does change the mood and makes it sound a bit slower but I find nothing dissonant between them. Like bennychico11 said, I think you've been giving the original a lot of airplay recently and these chords are just not what you expect. It's practically a different song.

I'm interested in anyone's opinion of the kick and bass. On my setup they are heavy but not overbearing or in the way. For some reason the kick really popped out after the mixdown and I had to pull it back and remix it. Also, the bass and kick tracks are really tight and clear but they seem a little muddy in my final mix. How are they on your system?

I also wanted the vocals distinct and clear but not so much that it sounds like folk or pop. Can anyone verify?

Thanks!

Sorry dude. I just don't like them. It's not because I'm used to certain things. There are just dissonances between the vocals and the chords in the verses that don't jive with me. It's just my opinion.

As for kick - I could use a little more attack sound. I think it would help it be heard in addition to being felt.

Bass sounds decent to my ears!

come on guys!! 18 more posts and we will have the most replied to thread in the MP3 forum!!!

Thats awesome :) .
Blue Bears gonna have his work cut out for him! Lol.

SuperSpyrocket, very origional, but your timing is really, really, REALLY bad (and then some mate, you need to work on that). Also, I don't think the feel that the voice brings matches very well with the feel the guitar bring. I have to agree with Erik, doesn't really sound that well to me.

79 Les Paul, your file doesn't work.

I set aside 3 hours for this on Wednesday morn next week... with that many entries, I may have to limit the length of my comments a bit but I'll try and get at least some comments in for all entries if I can.
