the only reason this mix won is cause its complex. It still has a hell of a lot of low end issues between the kick the synth and the bass track and the reason he got good results was not cause he was a mixing pro, but he had the right tools to work with. Overal its a decent mix, but I've heard better using a live mixer crappy dynamic mics run into cool edit by a 16 year old
"shot your ego"

Such hostility. I did a 2 hour mix on this track I never even listened to it long enuff to resolve relationships well. i just threw something together for the fun of it. LOL But then I live in Detroit and haters abound. LOL. had I taken a few more hours i would have achieved greater separation.

I have to admit i'm very impressed with your r an b pop sounds off your sample mp3s. I mean really impressed and was shocked when i saw your gear list. I exspected much worse. Goes to show you somone who knows what they are doing can get great results with less then optimal gear, as long as you have great tallent and you do. Great job hope to hear more work from your studio in the future

I apreciate your followup response. It is all about knowing what you are doing. As I said I was taught to get a great mix from crap. This mix was some practice for me as I never have mixed this style of music. :) Thanks for looking at the samples and digging further to see what I really do. Thank goodness I dont have an Ego problem else I'd be rolling around crying. I think when people attack someone it makes me chuckle. I encourage everyone, even when I didn't have a clue I was encouraging everyone else. :) But constructive criticism is always welcome. Like the issue of the relationships between the bass and the kick and the keys. I doubt I hi-passed anything and I know I didnt listen for how they interacted, I spent 15 minutes prepping the track and most of the time on his vocal and the gtr. Then I looked at the clock and said you got 30 minutes to finish. :)

In the future I too will be hosting mixing contests as well. I have a ton of gear I'd like to give away. So be on the lookout.
