Power Woes

Greetings from the Northeast Corridor. I don't know about you, but my particular slot on the power grid entitles me to electrical service that is, in a word, shitty -- spikes, brownouts in summer, and intermitent NOISE. Noise is that annoying buzz you hear whenever you turn off everything but your mixing board (in my case, a Mackie 1202 VLZ) and your power amp, turn up the "Main Mix" on the board, and hear a not-so-subtle hum coming through the studio monitors that reminds you of hornets in heat, or a gentle kazoo from hell, whatever. If you ignore it, it usually goes away after a while -- only to return the moment the bozos at the local utility company get distracted and stick their fingers back up their butts (which can happen at any moment). QUESTION: Is their any way on god's green earth to get rid of this noise??? In other words, is a Furman Power Contitioner nothing more than an expensive power strip, or does it walk the walk, as well as it talks the talk? Thanks for your help, as always. PEACE!

hmmmmm

You might want to invest in the Furman AC Line Voltage Regulator Model AR-1215.

Go check it out. I have used one from day one in this studio, and I have never had any problems with AC noise or fluctuations.

budget buzz-buster?

Thanks for the tip. The Furman 1215 goes for around $400 new at Sam Ash. If it completely eliminates hum, it's worth it, I guess. But I wonder if it's possible to get the same result from one of Furman's less expensive units -- say the PL8 Surge Protector, which goes for around $120 or the PL Plus at $160. Any ideas?
