Guitar EMI RFI

No - it doesn't work like that. They're just a signal strength meter that is wide band - so they give you a reading that something is there, but other interference sources won't be detected. I have a BT router here for my internet. It kicks out so much noise between 21 and 29MHz using a radio here on those frequencies is impossible. The meter I have gives me a reading from my TV, that doesn't cause interference, but nothing from the router. That's the snag. The pickups are the most sensitive tool he has - so moving the pickup off the guitar on a long cable would find what is causing his problem.
 
If the pickup buzz kicks on, the EMF meter device should pick up a signal, if it is RFI. My crappy one goes to 10 GHz. It would show something.

When my attic fan turns on, it reads. When I leave the fridge open it reads. When the AC turns on, it reads EMF. Yours doesn't pick up your router?

If the guitar is more sensitive than the EMF meters sensors, I don't know I have not done that research. The Sensors in my hand held go down to RF: 0.02µW/m² ~ 9999mW/m², Detectable Frequency: up to 10GHz , down to a 250 nanometer range. It cost $34.

guys just setup the rig again in the old place look at how silent this thing is. its stupid silent and thats boosting the high mids and highs significantly and nothing! fing amazing.
At the other place even when the noise would be gone the noise floor wouldnt be this low. Amazing. Something over there is messing with the pickup. i turned off everything i could inside the home. and obviously using the same rig (painfully dragged everything to the old place so much crap!)

I guess if the noise comes back here then we would know that its something in my rig cycling or going bad. i highly dout it though.

this noise floor ruins me for noiser places i just cant record that way.

PS. dont mind the bad tuning job i just took it out the case and started recording lol

Interesting. i am a newbie in terms of reading the signals themselves. i looked up EMI meters on youtube and i saw the real pro guys have like thousand dollar kits to detect different type of things. that when i said forget buying a meter not worth it and they alway said you wont get much out of a cheap one.
 
I use an analyser for work, and they’re very different from the cheaper things. Mine though is only looking at RF energy, the cheap units tend to use a simple coil, a transformer and a rectifier, so pretty insensitive. Until somebody sends one to big clive to pull to bits on YouTube we can only guess how poor they really are.
