There is a very good training DVD Tutorial by David Wills that you can purchase on Ebay for less than $50 that covers everything.
-to the op or other interested party-
I just purchased one of the training DVDs for my Neo. There were a few things I just wasn't getting from the manual, or was too lazy to put forth the effort to understand. In either case, the DVD makes things really simple, broken into sections of specific topics and in simple straight forward terms.
Not entirely sure how I got on the mailing list, put received a promo code through email, 60% off. I could have purchased the DVD and payed shipping(which was more than the cost of the DVD), or just choose to view it online at their website whenever I wish. Seeing how if I had the DVD in hand I would put in the computer to view it, it's not a whole lot of difference just opting to go to their website. The Tascam site has a link to the training DVD site(if i'm not mistaken), so they must have some licensing agreement and the DVD is in a sense officially given the thumbs-up by Tascam.
Less than $12 bucks was the cost. Go to their website Home | ProAudioDVDs.comProAudioDVDs.com | Music Technology made EASY! and click almost all the way through to the end, filling in email addy and all that...but don't follow through with the purchase with your credit card. Then, wait a bit, possibly the next day, using the time to leaf through the manual, and then check your email. Chances are they might send you a promo code for the 60% discount. Or possibly do a net search for a promo code, if available. I would highly recommend getting a DVD(or online access to the DVD) for whichever machine you choose to purchase. Then you have two points of reference, manual and DVD.
I have the 2488 Neo. It sounds like it would fulfill your needs quite sufficiently. On the second hand market it should be fairly reasonably priced. There are a few guys around here who have shelved their Neos in favor of computer based DAWs. You might be able to pick one up for a couple of bills.
Good luck.
