There is a very good training DVD Tutorial by David Wills that you can purchase on Ebay for less than $50 that covers everything.

-to the op or other interested party-

I just purchased one of the training DVDs for my Neo. There were a few things I just wasn't getting from the manual, or was too lazy to put forth the effort to understand. In either case, the DVD makes things really simple, broken into sections of specific topics and in simple straight forward terms.

Not entirely sure how I got on the mailing list, put received a promo code through email, 60% off. I could have purchased the DVD and payed shipping(which was more than the cost of the DVD), or just choose to view it online at their website whenever I wish. Seeing how if I had the DVD in hand I would put in the computer to view it, it's not a whole lot of difference just opting to go to their website. The Tascam site has a link to the training DVD site(if i'm not mistaken), so they must have some licensing agreement and the DVD is in a sense officially given the thumbs-up by Tascam.

Less than $12 bucks was the cost. Go to their website Home | ProAudioDVDs.comProAudioDVDs.com | Music Technology made EASY! and click almost all the way through to the end, filling in email addy and all that...but don't follow through with the purchase with your credit card. Then, wait a bit, possibly the next day, using the time to leaf through the manual, and then check your email. Chances are they might send you a promo code for the 60% discount. Or possibly do a net search for a promo code, if available. I would highly recommend getting a DVD(or online access to the DVD) for whichever machine you choose to purchase. Then you have two points of reference, manual and DVD.

I have the 2488 Neo. It sounds like it would fulfill your needs quite sufficiently. On the second hand market it should be fairly reasonably priced. There are a few guys around here who have shelved their Neos in favor of computer based DAWs. You might be able to pick one up for a couple of bills.

Good luck.

I got the David Wills DVD and really didn't get much out of it compared to the very small manual (which is sufficient) that came with my 2488 NEO. But the 2488 is very intuitive and easy to learn once you start using it....even though the DAW freaks here will talk you out of getting a stand alone digital recorder. So watch out for the DAW crowd here, they will sway you away from stand alone units :laughings::spank::eatpopcorn:

Sigh....even us 'freaks' have feelings. Why does my ass feel sore? Oh yeah, it doesn't. Thanks for not being judgmental tho. Again, sigh....

Ok sorry for using the "freak word" wait....I didn't use that word LoL ;)

there ya' go again ..... saying things that aren't true.

I've read all those threads where you make the bogus claim that people put down on you for using a stand alone and the FACT is that didn't happen. Not a single person put down on you at all nor tried to convince you to change what you used. ALL anyone did was say why they preferred a DAW.

That's NOT the same thing as putting down on you or trying to get you to change.
Are you just unable to understand what you read?
I've seen you repeatedly get things wrong that you've read so maybe that's it.

But keep it up ...... I look forward to your permanent banning after you start with this crap again.

By the way ..... you know what it's called when you say things that aren't true as you did above?
It's called a lie ...... try to quit with the lies about other people.

It seems that you are the very one that cant take a joke and are insecure Bob...go back to bed

First off.......you DID use the word "freaks" when referring to DAW users. See your own quote. Secondly......no one here seems to have any problem with stand alone units that I've noticed. In fact......many here have both........as do I.

Ok I said that, but I don't think he took that quote from this Post so it was out of context and un-called for. Besides that, Lt .Bob has given me a hard time ever since Ive been on this HomeRecording.com site  What Post did you find that quote on may I ask?

Once again ..... not true.
ALL I have ever done was point out that no one has put down on you for using a stand alone.
Show us a quote ..... show us a single time enyone has put down on you for using a DAW.
All I have even done was try to help you understand that it's not ok for you to continually insult other members here all the time
Fact is ..... YOU have called me insulting names from the very beginning and for absolutely no reason at all in the beginning.

For some reason I was insulted by you calling me names and pushed back ..... what a shock.

But the difficulties have completely and totally been 100% your doing.
if you call me names I'm gonna push back ..... why wouldn't I?
And you can't show me calling you names "from the very beginning" while I can quote you calling me names quite a bit.

You can keep sticking your fingers in your ears all you want but if you're gonna keep calling people names and lying about what others have said you're just gonna keep getting pushback from the people you've insulted or lied about.
And even here I'm being simply factual and fairly polite.
I doubt you'll be able to manage that though.

Ok Im sorry that I said "DAW freaks/DAW crowd" I did NOT mean nothing by that :(
