LOL, you don't have to worry about that. "When RAMI speaks, people listen".

yeah, that's a good suggestion. I like the way the scratching sounds behind the bridge section of the song. I think it sounds creepy. It's not the hill I want to die on, so we'll figure it out. I can post it without and let everybody hear what it sounds like "naked"... No big deal.

If it's distracting to the listener, as I think it has been, it may just be too loud.

Thanks everybody for your input... I value it greatly.

Monkey - what do you say?

A note from Monkey's private secretary:

Monkey's comments on the arrangement and editing issues raised translate approximately as, "Tim is a poo-poo ca-ca face".

Well I don't want this to be a lop-sided vote. So I'll say that you should lose the tune and keep the scratching.

My reasoning re the vinyl sound... the piano and vocal are so detailed and clear that a connection with a scratchy record player just doesn't make sense to me. For a mysterious backing sound effect that didn't give a conflicting "listening situation" image (at least to me), maybe rain on the roof or something similar could work.

Nice. Thanks Tim. That is a GREAT idea.

Incanus - what was that band with the sound we were after? I can't remember the name. Sparse and tense, it were.

Good song. Your vocals kind of remind me of Dennis Wilson.

Definitely ax the record sound.

Thanks, CI2.

You also have my voice for the scratching. It gives it a unique quality, and that is what this is all about isn't it?? Each of us having and sharing our uniqueness?
That is what seperates the 'goodsound', from the the 'supersound'!!!
You got it!!! Flaunt it!!! :D

I wouldn't have it any other way. You guys are super in your sounds!! :)

Yes. If I remember aright, it was Portishead (or Portis-head, or Portis Head). They absolutely used the 'needle-on-vinyl' sound in at least on some of their songs (I had only their second CD). They did other interesting, but drastic things to the mixes, like mono drums hard panned (or nearly so) to one side. I don't think we can get away with stuff like that without really thinking it through.

Exactly!!! Thank you, Tim.

That is my problem with the sound: the quality of recording is 'new' and relatively clear and good. The vinyl sound is 'old' or antique sounding. That is a discrepancy.

On the other hand, I think it does add another layer of tension to the song.

I don't know. . .

I didn't comment on the scratching. I think that it should be left up to the artist. Of course, if it was too loud and distracting, that would be an issue worth commenting on. But if you guys feel it adds to the mood and feel that YOU are going for, it doesn't matter what 10 people out of the 4 billion on this earth say.

Having said that, my vote would be to start the song with it and slowly fade it away barely noticeably so that by halfway through the tune, we barely even notice it went away. But again, that's how I would do it. It doesn't really matter. It's your song and it's an awesome tune with or without it.

See, I read your post!! I always shall.

I agree completely with the first part of the post. It is ours to do with as we see fit. And I really enjoy creating the music we're currently doing, even if it is not the 'flavour of the day' stylistically.

I'm not sure about the second part, because if the song began that way, wouldn't it be missed at the end, or during the stops? I think it's an all or none thing, but maybe we could put it in a little lower.

That little sound sure has sparked a lot of input and ideas! Kind of funny.

Thanks to everyone for listening and posting.

Well, in reality, concensus is, you dudes write some great tunes, and perform them well. Posting them here, for us to critique is just that....a critique. We pick at the stuff WE might do differently, but IT IS YOUR TUNE. You need to be happy with it. If we make all the changes, then it might not be what you want anymore. It would be our tune. I listen to every comment made about my music, and at least try most suggestions that sound reasonable. Some of it really helps the music, and some doesn't. But, all is good, cuz if I didn't try new stuff, I wouldn't learn.
Your stuff is not "the flavor of the day", as most stuff on here isn't. That's what makes homerecording so cool. There is no way a record label would even try to put out a song I do......It wouldn't sell, so not worth the time. They run it as a business, and need that daily flavor to operate. I do it for fun. I'm sure you guys have some fun with your tunes, as most home musicians do, and that is the most important aspect.

That's the best disclaimer I ever read!!!!! Beautiful!!!! Mexican food is my all-time favourite!!!!

Anyway, I don't mean to give the impression that I would go against my own best judgement due to a majority of opinions that may differ from my own. I'm mostly just tossing around ideas, and that may make me sound a bit wishy-washy at times. That's all right. This place (to me) is for exploring ideas and rethinking things and amassing opinions. I love it!! I very much enjoy working on our music. I never thought we'd be able to build our own little studio, which has come about mostly because of Casey. And once we had such a studio, it demanded that we refine our song-writing process and our skills in general, which we have attempted to do.

Always enjoy reading your posts, Ed, and you'll get a little more rep from me as soon as it lets me again.

Wow. Thank you very much, Nakatira.

Very encouraging.

maybe an old film reel sound in the intro to replace the record effect? no matter what you guys do with the intro effect, this is still one bad ass tune.
