Out of Phase Guitar Tracks?

And it's interesting that we're in agreement then in that it doesn't matter how you get there. But it is the underlying principle is where the value of it is. It seems odd to me so much made over what it's called, maybe it's the 'rule part of it? Ok. It's flexible. There's variables.
But this 'it don't apply to so and so ..because of ..what was that again now? :D

I don't really understand what you're getting at here, but I bet it's awesome.
 
If you're trying to get from point A to point B it's nice to know at least one sure route. You can take that path the whole way there, take it part of the way there and ad lib the rest or you can find another path entirely. Sometimes the road is blocked and you have to take a detour. The 3:1 rule of thumb is one known path to isolation. It's there if you need it.
 
Just because it's the same type of mic, doesn't mean it will sound the same. Placement is everything. Angle, distance, it all matters.
I totally agree with you on "fixing" it. I rarely phase correct anything. Only if it's causing a problem.
