I recently purchased a Gibson Firebird, and wanted to record something kinda heavy that I would be able to use both it, and my strat on....to get them acquainted I guess  ...I was lucky enough to have some free time last weekend, so, after a few beers I decided to try and cover this Queen tune...it's one of there more heavy tunes and its on the News Of The World album.Vocals were rough but after a few drinks...they were fun to do at least...any mix /arrangement comments are welcome as using the Gibson is a entirely different animal for my guitar sound and I'm trying to capture it well in my recordings.I have posted a link for both streaming or download...as soundclick seems pretty flakey these days.
Thanks!

Nice man.

The guitar is kinda up front, maybe tame it a bit.

The vox sounds like Mercury on steroids :D , seriously cool vox man.

Nice playing as usual.

And great cover you picked, We tend to be kinda kindered in our musical ways you and I.

Thanks for sharing.

Btw that its nice to hear that new Gibson axe. not only does it look great it sounds killer as well.

cheers mate

Mate it sounded like fun but I was actually expecting Sheer heart attack as in album #3. Those 1st three LPs were THE BEST hard rock & pomp with a dash of POP on SHAttack.
Guitar sounds nice but the mix suffers from new guitaritis. To be expected I guess.
rock on BUT how about something from the 1st three?

Hey NAk, Thanks for the listen! I hear ya on the guitars...like I said, The Gibson has allot of "uummph" to it and I love the fatness it provides...I will take it down a bit on my next mix...I think I mix like a guiatrist anyways ;) .
It is cool to meet people who share the same love for music , glad you dug it!

Hey Rayc, sorry to disappoint you man :p , I absolutely love those 1st three albums, and would l really dig covering something like Liar, 7 seas of Rhye, or Now I'm Here.. I guess with "sheer Heart Attack" (the song) ,I was more comfortable singing, as it is a Roger Taylor sung tune(in the studio anyways),and kinda has a punk/metal feel to it that I could butcher my own way vocally.
I am gonna tray and tame the guitars a bit in my next mix.
Thanks alot for the feedback..I appreciate it!

I totaly agree with you both on the first three albums, though theire album after that is hard to describe as a down trip.

Queen II is my fave album, march of the black queen is the track.

I would love doing some of this stuff.

Ps Freddie does the vox on sheer heart attack, roger is just singing background in some places.

I kinda recognize Freddies voice easy, after him being my nr Idol, and my favorite musican.

Roger did sing some great tuens though, like I`m in love with my car.

Cheers guys.

II is great isn't it. Much more assured than I but wow, didn't I break new ground LIAR is still one hellova rock song.
I digitized the vinyl long before the CDs were released down here.
Opera & Races were great too. I'm partial to the pre synth records I suppose. When they discovered the synth in News it was pretty remedial work (the synth use that is) BUT those 1st three ..
I saw the Opera tour in 1976 in Sydney - blast away rock.
& then Now I'm Here - top tune.
Roger had a way with an out & out rocker didn't he.
Oh, & Tenament Funster - so many people put them down as pomp, pop & camp disco esque but they could would & should ROCK.
I remember a fan writing to NME after SHA saying he'd crawl over shit with glass fragments in it just to see them ROCK.
I've got the power, I do the march of the Black Queen. (My life is in your hands...)
A mate & I used to write the lyrics to the 1st 2 LPs in our science note books rather tha take lecture notes in high school.

I can't listen, I'm at work. but I always look forward to hearing Variaxman's killer guitar tracks.

The title of this thread only comes up as "Obscure Queen...." on the front page...I thought "Waisley Peisel" finally posted some music. :D :D :D

Wow rayc , I envy you being able to see them live back than....I was a bit to young...my 1st time seeing them was on "The Game" tour...not one of my favorite albums...although it has some bright spots...but the show was just incredible! I used to think the album covers for both Queen I and II were so cool...
So that's Freddie singing on Sheer Heart Attack? I always thought it was Roger as he was credited as writing it...Freddie sings it live so you are probably right.Tenement Funster & I'm In Love With My Car are killer Roger tunes!
I think I'm gonna be listening to a bunch of old Queen stuff today ;) !!

HA!....steering clear of that one...do not wanna incur the rath of the weezel!

Man this is great, being among Queen fans.

RayC your comments was spot on.

Queen was a rockin band, it was very easy to hear this at theire live show, songs that was very radio sounding on record.
Was bursting out in full rock, I`ve only seen live videos of queen.
I collect them and I`ve seen mosat of whats available.

Queen is one of my fave live acts, its hard to beat freddie as a front man.

I just love the live killer album. specially when they play Death on two legs.

Hope I`m not hogging your thread Axeman, I`m just very thrilled to be talking about queen.

I`m looking forward to trying this tune and getting my tracks on your Tie you mamma down :)

Cheers guys

Thanks buddy ;) :D

Hey Vari...I'm not really recording anything these days. So if you want drums on anything, let me know. I haven't had a chance to hear anything, so I don't know if you have a drummer on these tracks or loops. but if you want drums, let me know.

Oh man, I'm all for it...I did use loops on this so Im sure it would sound waay better with some kick ass drumming !!!How do you guys wanna proceed?I can up load a drumless, vocal less version maybe?

I'll need a click or a drum track to play to. If possible all the drums on one side and all the music on the other. But even if you can just get me a mix with drums (maybe louder than usual), that would be great. Right on!!!! Looking forward to playing on it.

After my last post last night I played I, II & Sheer Heart Attack consecutively. Just had to & it amazing to hear them in sequence again.
Keeping the flame alive by actually playing the music is also important. I've always been far too remedial abassist & guitarist to attempt it though.
I look forward to some more from you fellows.
