I don't ever try, I just do. :D

I know, Greg, I know. Now keep your clothes on.:laughings:

Yet again we're getting away from the awesomeness of this thread. Now, hows about a beer and some pics of that fine ass studio you got there!!!

what mics are you using on your toms?

and, where's the vocal booth? :p

The mics on my toms are GLS ES-57s from Orange County Speaker Repair. They're the SM57 "clones" you hear talked about around here--they're not identical, but they're very good in their own right. Lots of bang for the buck.

That's awesome!

What's the PRS-y looking trans yellow guitar with the maple fretboard?

Looks great. I can feel the pride. :)

Wow! That is amazing. You should be truly proud. Your attention to detail is absolutely impressive. You can tell you have thought this through. Congratulations on job well done.

WOO HOO!

StratDude is my hero! :p

Beautiful job man. Seriously. Makes me wanna kick mine to the curb and start all over. :)

Congrats Sir Strat of Dudeness.
:D

:laughings: I love it.:D

Very nice! I love the little shelves between the panels on the side walls. Excellent work dude.

Thanks, gents. Seriously. And again, they'll never see this, but I've got to thank my son again who got me started with the framing and drywall; and my wife who has shown exceptional grace in letting me focus almost exclusively on this all through the summer.

Now I've got make amends and get some stuff done around the old dude ranch. So maybe I'll start tracking in a couple months! :D

Amazing man. You really kicked this rooms ass. You made that room your bitch. You . . . .well . . . . ok, you did well man. Good job.

And to prove it . . . .

Perhaps the first post where Greg didn't try to PWN someone!!!!

(just messin' with you man.)

Again, awesome room.

Thanks dude. :)

I don't ever try, I just do. :D

I also give credit where credit is due, and WS did a motherfucker of a bang-up job. I'm not into "recording space" and "ambiance" and shit like that, but I'd gladly track and hang out naked in there anytime.

Excellent job.

Thanks Greg. And I'm counting on it.

Mr. Strat,

No bias here. Amazing. Thing of beauty. This is the first in-home recording studio I've seen, I can't imagine anything better. I can't wait to see it in person. (And try it out)

Thought I recognized those. I bought a 3-pack last year myself. They were a BIG step up from the misc junk mics I was using on toms. I actually prefer these to the one SM57 I have. Can't be beat for the price IMO. :)

Nice work and congrats on the new digs. Are you a one man band or do you have full bands in? Got a floor plan? (Just curious)

Yep, I'm with you on those GLS mics. I love 'em.

As far as the studio goes, I describe it like this: I built it just for inasmuch as that's how I've planned on building it forever. In the past couple years though, I've recorded some others, and fully expect to grow that work. But the bottom line is the same: the room is made for me to enjoy working in it, and I would--even if I never shared it! :D

Floor plan? I'm not sure what you mean. The layout of this room? or the rest of the space that its a part of?

I guess really I'm just curious about your room dimensions. Must be a pretty good size room to fit drums and everything...

The room started at 16 x 26; it's closer to 15 x 25 after finishing a couple walls. The layout can be seen in this post:

Some of the details changed in construction--mostly just smaller shelves in the corners and behind the desk, but everything is placed according to that layout.

White Strat, that's one epic studio you've got there :) The amount of careful planning that must've gone into that is just amazing.

Are the guitar hangers all fixed to wall batons? I wan't to put up some in my studio but there aren't many batons in the right places and I'm not sure if the plasterboard will take it. How are they fixed in your studio?

Cheers

UNREAL!
& tidy too!
Now I can see what I hear - clean lines, well thought out & done with gusto.

Its threads like this that remind that these things can be done. I've had a dream of making a home studio for a while now, and once I've got most other parts of my life sorted I hope to do the same thing.

Congratulations on all your (and your family's) hard work, it's clearly paid off and inspired a lot of us along the way.

Thanks for the kind words, James.

Yeah, I wouldn't be comfortable hanging those guitars in sheetrock (plasterboard!) either. I put "hanging" boards horizontally between all the vertical studs at the same height. Then after the room was done, I knew that if I put the hanger at that height, I'd always hit real wood.

This post shows what it looked like before the sheetrock went over it:

Thanks Ray! Now I've got to get back to making things for you to hear! (Did a little tracking in there yesterday/last night--and had a great time!)

Glad I could inspire you! I had the dream for a long time too. But I don't hang with folks who have studios, so it felt kinda far removed till I started hanging around on this board. Lot's of folks here convinced me it could happen. (I just had to convince my wife! :D)

Nice room, WS. Great job.

You mention GIK a couple times. Did you compare products and prices with other treatment firms? Real Traps and Auralex come to mind.

My recording space has been an unused bedroom. Very small and square, low ceiling. For micing up amps I can move them out of that room but it will still be my mix and listening area. It desperately needs help and I was looking at a few of the room kits these guys sell. I'm not doing a whole studio job like you've done just polishing a turd. Any thoughts or recommends are appreciated.

Thanx,

lou
