Yet again we're getting away from the awesomeness of this thread. Now, hows about a beer and some pics of that fine ass studio you got there!!!

The mics on my toms are GLS ES-57s from Orange County Speaker Repair. They're the SM57 "clones" you hear talked about around here--they're not identical, but they're very good in their own right. Lots of bang for the buck.

Thanks, gents. Seriously. And again, they'll never see this, but I've got to thank my son again who got me started with the framing and drywall; and my wife who has shown exceptional grace in letting me focus almost exclusively on this all through the summer.

Now I've got make amends and get some stuff done around the old dude ranch. So maybe I'll start tracking in a couple months!

Thought I recognized those. I bought a 3-pack last year myself. They were a BIG step up from the misc junk mics I was using on toms. I actually prefer these to the one SM57 I have. Can't be beat for the price IMO.

Nice work and congrats on the new digs. Are you a one man band or do you have full bands in? Got a floor plan? (Just curious)

The room started at 16 x 26; it's closer to 15 x 25 after finishing a couple walls. The layout can be seen in this post:

Some of the details changed in construction--mostly just smaller shelves in the corners and behind the desk, but everything is placed according to that layout.

Are the guitar hangers all fixed to wall batons? I wan't to put up some in my studio but there aren't many batons in the right places and I'm not sure if the plasterboard will take it. How are they fixed in your studio?

Its threads like this that remind that these things can be done. I've had a dream of making a home studio for a while now, and once I've got most other parts of my life sorted I hope to do the same thing.

Congratulations on all your (and your family's) hard work, it's clearly paid off and inspired a lot of us along the way.

Yeah, I wouldn't be comfortable hanging those guitars in sheetrock (plasterboard!) either. I put "hanging" boards horizontally between all the vertical studs at the same height. Then after the room was done, I knew that if I put the hanger at that height, I'd always hit real wood.

Glad I could inspire you! I had the dream for a long time too. But I don't hang with folks who have studios, so it felt kinda far removed till I started hanging around on this board. Lot's of folks here convinced me it could happen. (I just had to convince my wife! )

You mention GIK a couple times. Did you compare products and prices with other treatment firms? Real Traps and Auralex come to mind.

My recording space has been an unused bedroom. Very small and square, low ceiling. For micing up amps I can move them out of that room but it will still be my mix and listening area. It desperately needs help and I was looking at a few of the room kits these guys sell. I'm not doing a whole studio job like you've done just polishing a turd. Any thoughts or recommends are appreciated.
