Dude, I've been following this thread for some time now and I'm pumped to see things falling into place the way they are. Congrats man. BTW where is the 24 track tape machine going? If not a deck atleast buy a lava lamp!

I've got a pair of lava lamps on order! (Stereo, don't ya know!) My old lava lamp broke moving all the gear out before construction.

And a tape machine? I'd love to have one--just to see what it's all about. But if--or should I say WHEN--I do, I'll build a matching "sidecar" just for it. :)

I loved what you said about seeing the dream first. That was very encouraging! Personally, I can see my dream as if it's happening right now. Unfortunately, at this point it is just that: a dream.

Thanks for the visual encouragement and the verbal as well. :)

Like I said, it may sound hokey, but it's true. And it's true for much bigger things than a home studio! I've spent a life learning to see where I want to be--and not just the end result--but each and every step I'll have to take to get there.

I remember when our dungeons were so similar it was scary. Now it's like one twin went and got all successful while the other is still living in the slummy townhouse by the railroad tracks..... Seriously tho, that's the best basement studio job I've ever seen, I can't wait to see more pics! I will be living vicariously thru them........ Very inspirational,

Hey WhiteStrat,

What kind of material do you use for the desk/console? Hardwood plywood of some sort?

Yup, it's 3/4" birch. It's nearly cabinet grade, so I'm going with the edges exposed. Staining the whole thing cherry--so it'll match the hardwood floor I put on the riser around the desk.

Awesome, dude. You must be a proud papa.

Thanks Supercreep. I am proud. But I gotta tell ya--you kept me going when it was still a dungeon. The studio that you built has very similar dimension (x and y, anyway), so I looked at your thread and all its pics a million times--hoping/believing that my time would come soon enough!

Okay...it's only stained, and I've got a couple/few days of Spar Helmsman and sanding ahead of me, but damn, I can smell the finish line! I saved the desk for last and as soon as this desk is done, I can bring in all the gear and make some music.

Beautiful! Where are your monitors going? on the bridge/desk or stands behind or soffits???

Thanks Jeff. Monitors are going on the bridge for now, but I've got room behind the desk for stands if I find that to be problematic.

Ooooohhh...shiny. :D

That looks awesome!

I've been following the thread and have been waiting to see this. Can't wait to see it full of gear!

Thanks Tom! Yeah, the "shiny" point is a real clincher for me. That's two coats, but no sanding yet. I like to build up the top coat some before I sand, so that when I do sand, I don't risk going through it and taking some stain with it.

I'm going to dinner and then to see Rush in concert tonight--oughta be just long enough for this to dry. I'm hoping to sand and put the final, smoother coat on in the wee hours...

Then I fill it with buttons and lights! :D

DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!! This is like "finding" a bad-ass series on TV, watching all the back episodes then having to wait till next week!!!!!!!!!! Finish already so I can see what it looks like!!! LOL

Seriously though; it looks great man. I hope you enjoy playing music in there.
