Thanks True! There's no point in hanging the harem back up, since it's not done yet, but I'm very visual. I needed to see them hanging to get a sense of completion--I needed the motivation to keep going.

Good point on the floor. The amps will be lifted by about six inches. I'm building plaform shelves to put the amps on--not for water, but for organization. I thought it would be cool to be able to kind of tuck footswitches and stompboxes under the amps a bit, and also hide all their power and patch cables. But you're right it would keep the amps out of water (not the pedals though).

The drums are just going on the floor. Now I'm nervous about that.

However, in five and half years of being here--we've never had water in the basement. (I'm clinging to hope, here :) )
Visual is good....stimulates the creative juices of the bwain.

Not to be the alarmist...but drum platforms and above floor, pedal storage can save many a buck later...cause ya just never know.

Just seems to make sense in the plans of a basement studio that you are/have invested money and time in, to add some sort of water protection plan.

I suppose your most prized gear will be hanging on the wall though...oh crap..do you have any water pipes inside those walls?:D:spank:

Looks great man. ;)

looks like you're takin the time to do it right the first time.

Kudos dude. :drunk:

More updates...

I'm loving the way the room is turning out, but I'm a bit sad at the reality that this is about the last time it will look this cool & big. After I build the desk and move all the gear back in--it's gonna look crowded and small!

General changes: finished painting the floor; put in the rubber cove/wallbase; put in the area rugs; hung up more of the harem (eye candy keeps me going); put in the bass traps on the drum end, and the shelves I built to go over them; built and placed the amp shelves.

First pic: the drum end of the room--shows the bass traps and shelves (with cool mood lights in the shelves).

Second pic: detail of the corner with the bass trap and shelf

Third pic: vertical view giving a better look at the floor with the area rugs.

And a couple more...

First pic: the second set of mic shelves

Second pic: detail shot of the amp shelf (there's one on the other wall too) This will let me keep pedals and wires under the amps instead of in front of 'em. Keeps it neat and saves some floor space.

Third pic: Just for dastrick. Yep, there is a white Strat!

Can't wait to use it...

Suite. I can't wait to see this room in action. That is an impressive build out.

Thanks LilBro! You wanna come over and help me break it in?

(For those who are reading along, this is my actual brother--the one I've referenced before in a thread about him and his son coming over and doing some recording in my former dungeon.)

Hell yeah

The whole fam is stoked to see it in action. I'm checking with 'the boss' to see what might work...you busy Saturday?

Welcome to the site LilBro... WhiteStrat leaves some big footprints around here... Not that we're gonna compare or anything... No pressure... :laughings: :D  :)

cool man

This weekend is the big move to Springfield. Besides, the desk won't be done yet--no desk, no recording gear. But it might all come together by next weekend.

Thank you. No pressure taken .... my goal here is not to fill any footprints... but maybe to follow in some. As I play around with doing some simple recording at home, I'll be depending on my big brother.

I look forward to learning from everyone here.

Good luck with the move. Exciting times. Let me know if I can do anything to help with completion of the studio.

Are those ProCo plates?

Nope. Got those from a company in NY called One Visit Media. They make panel spaced 16" on center to go between wall studs (they also make standard 19" rack stuff). So I ordered up 3 of the wall panels with my own mix of connections. Not cheap, but definitely worth it.

I've finally reached the part I've been looking forward to the most--building my desk. I love carpentry--rough and finish--and I love building shelves and furniture (as you can tell by all the weird shelves and detail pieces I've built for the studio so far), so I've been building the desk in my head for years. The design has changed in my mind many times. For a long time I wanted something very sleek and modern--an elevated platform on two big column-like legs, but in the end, I settled on a very traditional square cabinet design. I just had to create as much rack space in and around my "command center" as possible. I don't feel like I "settled" any more. I'm really liking the way it's looking.

It's a modular design. I started by making precisely measured and perfectly square boxes--the "frames" for the rack gear (first pic), inside and outside vertical panels (pics 2 and 3) and put them together (pic 4).
