Ok, a lot of you are going to hate this one....which is kinda bad...but kinda good :)

A little number called Matthew's Love Life...a title from our very own Ametth. The song was originally called Boredom. I was sitting around last night and for the life of me couldn't think of anything to do. So at about 9PM I started on this. I retracked some of it this morning and it's done now (duh).

Here's a breakdown of what this is:

- The first sound is a stretched out backwards tom with a sine wave type distortion.
- The woman's voice is my girlfriend via an SM57->Art Pre.
- The first bass is through a guitar wah into a little tiny RCA Portable Amplified Speaker System. A glorified Mr. Mic. Mic'ed with an SM57->Art Pre.
- The first guitar is half POD direct and half POD into that Mr. Mic thing. Mic'ed the same as the bass. Fuzz setting on the pod.
- The radio sound is what my wah picks up. Usually I don't like it...but it's what I wanted here.
- The crazy oscillating background noise is a screwdriver with a square handle in a variable speed drill thumping the strings of my bass which was routed through the wah into the mr. mic.
- The rest of the guitar is the same except using the vox setting on the POD and some wah.
- The really really low thud sound is a TR909 sample thanks to fruity loops.

The cymbals in this are courtesy Big Kahuna! Go check the drum forum for great samples!

Lemme know what you all think.

This effing rocks!! I cant imagine anyone not liking this, I will kick their ass if they dont :D

Slack, have you been experimenting with Acid? (im not talking about Sound Forge here)......

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!

Jimi Hendrix go to hell!!!

I can't stop laughing OMG!!!

I bet Jimi would even call this wierd...listening again to see if I may have missed something....Love the drum sounds...I know you used BK's cymbals, but what other samples did you use?.....

At 4:42, its a little long for radio airplay...I would say cut it back to 3 to 3 1/2 minutes but I dont think you have anything to worry about there.....

Uh...best vocal job youve done so far....

Have you ever tried running the variable speed drill thru the POD?......

Ok, listening again....though its not commercial enuff for radio, I can see this in a porno sountrack.....for a really really INTENSE scene....without farm animals.....

Have you been getting enough rest lately...I think the CompCD thing is getting to you....try to relax...grab a beer....go over to your girlfriend and snatch a kiss (and vice versa).....

Mesh, its 3AM there...go to bed.....

For the other drum samples...I used a kick that I took from 2dcd.com in their sample sounds section. I'm not sure what the snare was...I know it was part of a crappy set of samples. It sounds horrible by itself but worked here. Oh, if the closed hat sounds a bit funny it's because I screwed with the pitch of each hit....in hindsight I might have left it alone.

I could run the drill through the POD but I'd need a special adapter.

Did you just diss my vocals in Dirt? Dude, I'm doing the best I can :) :) :)

You're getting close to Zappa's conversational style of guitar playing here. I think you should keep exploring this direction, and maybe consider adding some vocals for variety - can you write words like you play guitar? Like Zappa, the guitar noodling goes on too long for me, but it would satisfy if it was set off by some singing. No?

Dobro,

Thanks. I don't think I'll add vocals to this one....it's just one single thought...not really a song. I'm actually suprised at how long it is....it didn't feel long at the time...I thought it would be maybe 2.5-3 minutes.

Man, I'll never be in the same caliber as a genius like Zappa, but it's cool if you found even a remote similarity.

Mesh: thanks for listening man, glad you liked!

Ametth: thanks, I hope your love life improves before more people write songs about it :)

That's a DRIVING song, there. Wow. I'm overwhelmed... the equivalent, I'd imagine, of listening to Sgt. Peppers for the first time back in... uhm... Monty's days...

Can't wait to d/l this at home, turn it up, tune out, do nothing, listen mucho mucho...

(I was checking out Shailat's reverb page yesterday, one of his samples was still on WinAmp... so when your song got done, it "repeated" to "Allelu Allelu Allelu Allelujah," thought that was pretty cool...)

Hey, Ametth, your lovelife ROCKS!

:D

(I think the end should include an Ametth piano ditty, "tuned" to Slack's tone... just a thought...)

>Have you ever tried running the variable speed drill thru the POD?......

Wouldn't that void the warranty?

pretty cool ... I'm listening on my laptop speakers and it sounds pretty good ... so not a bad mix at all.
I really dig the drum beat ... hey, really cool cymbals! ;)
Great guitar stuff! Really unique sounds all over the place in this tune ... I like it.
Can't wait to play this through the big speakers at home. Good work.

Kelly: Thanks! The kick drum and low thump sample in this one are the best I've done so far. They make the walls shake which is something I've never been able to do before.

Doc: I think you can buy an adapter directly from Line 6.

BigKahuna: I don't think I used near enough cymbal. In fact, I'm only hearing one crash hit. I could have sworn I'd used more than that. Bummer. Maybe I'll throw some more in.

Nice song Slack! More porno funk for the world! Can't have enough of THAT! ;)

The cymbal samples are much better then what you were using before....

Ed

You missed it entirely but that's OK.

Hendrix would be proud.
Confused, but proud.
Your girlfriend has a very sexy voice.
Two thumbs up on the parting giggle.

Ed, thanks man!

Doc, I think Hendrix would laugh...but maybe he'll come back and put me in his shoe. I wish the giggle had turned out as clean as the first sample you hear....but I was screwing with the input gain and had it up to high (it was an unplanned kind of deal), so it's got that weird robotic distortion to it, which is why I had to leave it so quiet. Thanks for listening!

P.S. I get your joke now... :)

I saw a DTP2001(DrillToPod) transformer at Radio Shack...I think you may wanna check it out....

Any chance of a MP3 with just the giggling and maybe a little moaning....the old lady just isnt as generous as she used to be.....
