Low Frequency Absorber Panel Size

I have finally found some info on just how big the hanging panels have to be for low frequency absorbtion. From the book "Project Studios: A More Professional Approach" by Philip Newell, page 164 states:

"Effective low frequency absorbers have traditionally been large; their dimensions often requiring a depth of one-quarter of the wave-length of teh lowest frequency which must be abosorbed. As a 40 Hz wavelength is around 8 metres, that would mean using an absorber system 2 metres deep."

Also details the treatment to the inside of the "cavity" and distances between free-hanging panels.
This book goes into some good detail about information presented on John Sayers site, which inspired the question in the first place.

Not sure if this is secondhand knowledge to people here, but I have been looking for this for a while, so just thought I'd share
